Sadly news of Dave's death in a road accident has been received , our thoughts
are with the family, some of you will surely remember him  from way back in the
60s.

Dear Martin,
I have just accessed the Theydon Bois Youth Club Convention Newsletter on the
magic www, and read with interest and nostalgia of all the ex-Theydon Boys and
girls.
Although I was not one of the youth club members I was around at the time, and I
recognise so many names.
Now the sad bit. I heard yesterday from Dave Jennings elder daughter, Gail, that
Dave was tragically killed in an accident on his motor bike, by an unmarked
police car, which pulled out of a side road. This was only last weekend.
I had kept in touch with Marion (Dave's wife) and as you may know she also sadly
died last year after a long illness with breast cancer.
I am sure that you, and other ex-Theydon residents will be sad to hear the news,
and if anyone would like to contact the family they can do so at
gailjennings@....
I am trying to find Keith, Dave's brother (& my ex-husband) but with no luck. If
anyone can help I'd be really grateful.
Lovely to see the old pics. I'll hopefully be in touch again with some more
joyful news and an update.

Fun-loving businessman killed in road accident
TRIBUTE: David Jennings, 63, of East Harling, who has died following an accident

A family has paid tribute to a well-respected and successful East Harling
businessman, who has died following a road accident on Saturday.
David Jennings, 63, died from injuries sustained in the incident, on the B1108
Norwich Road at Carbrooke, shortly before 11am, involving a silver Ford Focus
and two motorcycles.

Mr Jennings had been riding with a neighbour – who sustained minor injuries –
when a car driven by an on-duty Norfolk police officer was involved in a
collision with the two motorcycles.

In a statement, Mr Jennings' family said he was fun-loving and lived his life to
the full. He took part in many activities, including motorcycling, skiing and
flying light aircraft.

"He was much-loved and respected by all who knew him and will be sorely missed
by his loving partner Eve and all her family, his daughters Gail and Faye,
grandchildren Mollie, Charlie and Ella, his many friends, work colleagues and
the business community."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident. Anyone with any information
should contact the serious collision investigation team on 0845 4564567.

It's holiday time, len has some new technology and has been trawling
though his slides, a friend has put some onto cd.

Len has loaned me a copy so these are now posted under len's tours on
the photos page for your enjoyment on our group and Iam sure will
bring back memories to some.

With the agreement of the management I have uploaded two files to
the Youth Club Reunion web site. One is when the kindergarten set
and their minders went on their holidays in 1969 the other is an
archive file for those odd photo's etc. which do not belong anywhere
else. Please feel free to add to them. For those like me who only
have slides I do have a slide/photo copier. If you have any Youth
Club related slides or photo's you would like digitalising and
downloading onto the site let me have them and I will do it for you.

Great to see a steady number of you signing up for our new online
group do encourage others. We have every intention of continuing the
newsletters as well as this e group and will do so with a bit of help
from everyone.
Anyone who has produced newsletters will know that we need a regular
supply of fresh copy, new bio's etc to give Mart a bank of info, so
that he can produce balanced newsletters.  We may even need a new
grannies and granddads column as a feature!

I hear talk of mini reunions, even one "south of the Thames" I wonder
is that to be known as "the South of England Chapter". Next Len will
be organising Saga trips.

We are also still on the hunt for members not yet found to add to the
list.  Any new names please (and contact details if you have them)
that come to mind, the more the better.

Yes, excellent! Thank you - and Pete and Jan!

My brother Pete had an excellent day with his crowd and Mum had a brief
visit from the Welches at the end of the day! A day to remember!

It was also noted how many of our number have ended up on the wrong side of
the Thames! There may be mini-reunions!

Please try to keep the magazine going. I shall try to contribute after the
elections in May and life begins to settle down.

The recent Reunion was, by all accounts, a fantastic success!

Virtually everyone from the original group, without other plans,
attended. Many travelled enormous distance to be there.
Over fifty people attended. For myself, Pete Lock and Jan
Archer, it was particularly rewarding, given that it had been over a
year in the planning.

The experience of rediscovering old friends reminded me of the
Granada TV series, "Seven Up", which I'm sure most are familiar with.
The series has followed the progress of a group of seven year olds,
from diverse backgrounds, every seven years. The most
recent update, Forty-Two Up was shown in 1998, so I guess another
is imminent. The insights into fates, sealed at an early age, have
been
fascinating to watch.

Our Theydon Bois experience has been similar in many ways.
For most of us, we were very familiar with the motley group of
teenagers,
whom we grew up with in a small, tight-knit village community.
The majority of us were from middle class backgrounds, a
few more advantaged than others. But by this time,
personalities, characters and prospects were largely set in place.
Having taken off to the Colonies, I havebeen unable to remain
in touch with most.

So, the re-assembly on March 19, forty years on, of that same group,
now largely grey-haired "Fifty (and Sixty) Up" dispersed Brits,
approaching retirement, was fascinating to witness. Most have not
changed at all, completely retaining their original early personas.
Language attributes, phraseology still intact. A few have added mild
accents from their transplanted environments.

But the comedians are still comedians. The ambitious among us have
largely achieved their ambitions, some with accolades.
The introverts and those preferring to sit in the sidelines back
then, have
largely remained so. However, among all, the achievements are
numerous. Doctors (of all kinds), a publisher, quite a few teachers,
including a few heads, librarians, structural engineers, a jeweller,
a director of a foster care agency, an anthropologist, an architect,
a head of national programmes at TheBritish Museum,  a few
noted marketers and advertising executives, a photographic processing
supremo, a very renowned author...the list goes on. WeĠre all
tempered by the years that have passed, but basically weĠre the
same great group of people,
with bells on.
