The Tubes turned in another great performance last night in Beautiful San Jo.
Trey NAILED Up From the Deep (I'm a sucker for a double kick drum) and served up
the night with an exhilarating ride over the pieces of his drum kit.
Rick let the bass parts swell up through the beat and rhythm as Dave's keys
swirled through the harmony and punched black and white holes in the deep blue
sky and sunlight reflecting off the Knight Ridder facade 500 feet in the air.
Fee was a pleasure to watch as he worked the crowd. The songs come from every
cell in his body as he roams, prowls and titillates from the edge of the stage
(No, U2 was not there)
Fee should have his own wing in the RnR Hall o' Fame. I wish I had an
autographed photo of Fee holding an autographed photo of Randy Mantooth.
It was great to see Roger perform the harmony start to No Way Out and the bridge
part demonstrates why the Tubes are TIED for the NUMBER ONE band in the world.
Roger is always awesome, but I was surprised by the encore and then THRILLED as
they launched in to Mondo Bondage. Mondo Bondage was &^%$# PERFECT!!!!!!
I jus' love that Glorious Racket!
The whole band proved to be in good spirits and seemed to be enjoying
themselves.
The power that hit the stage was pure and clean. The band once again lifted me
off the concrete all around me... (or was it in my head?)
I would be remiss if I didn't mention seeing the Tubes in this location roughly
17 years ago when Fee re-joined the band.
My 6'-6" tall son was in a stroller then, and I could get by with simple WPOD
dreams.
