Does anyone in this group know anything about Charles Newman, of Hungry Mother
Kennels in Volney, VA?
The kennels no longer exist & I can't find any trace of Newman, but I recently
came across a booklet (c. 1975-9) that he wrote, titled "Everything You Wanted
To Konw (and more) About The UPLANDER, America's Newest & Most Versatile Dog
Breed". A 12 pg. pdf of the booklet, which was not dated or copyrighted, is
available on my website at http://www.wirehairedvizsla.us/AboutWHV.html
Evidently, Newman was the first person to bring Wirehaired Vizslas (or
Uplanders, as they were known back in the 70's) to the United States. He formed
the Uplander Association of North America (a Virginia corporation) and
maintained a registry for the breed...all predating recognition by NAVHDA.
Sandor Arany's Thornhill kennels in Canada was one of the first to register WHV
with NAVHDA, but I have a copy of a letter he wrote in '79 in which he stated he
didn't know Newman and asked if the recipient knew how to reach Newman.
I'd like to be able to fill the gap in historical information, and find out what
happened to the Hungry Mother bloodlines, so if anyone has any info or contacts,
please e-mail me privately at reddog9992@...
Thanks,
Deb Wall
