Good day all,
Quote from my legacy generated website:
"John married someone Mary Catherine FITZPATRICK, daughter of Charles
FITZPATRICK and......"
I cannot find where this 'someone' comes from, particularly when all the
relevant details are there, and how to get rid of it.
Thanks
Bryan

That's a known problem and should be fixed in the next update.

Bryan,

Evert may well be right, there certainly was such a bug, which I thought that it
had been resolved, but I may well be wrong. In any event it is worthwhile
checking that you have the latest update.

Nevertheless, there are other ways in which the wording can be introduced. the
Legacy web creation does not introduce the word "someone", and I suggest that
you check Options>Customise>Default Marriage Wording. I have changed mine so
that only "married", "partnered", "next had a partnership with" and "next
partnered" with no other wording are included, thus totally eliminating
"someone". You would also need to check the marriage wording on the Individual
Marriage Screen to ensure that the above global setting has changed that for
your couple.

Another point to check is that both partners have no other marriages i.e. a
ghost marriage. Check the Spouse Icons on Family view to see the number of
spouses, and I would also check both in the Marriage List. Having done all that
I would run Check/Repair until error free.

Finally you could try unlinking all the children and the spouse, then relink the
spouses first, followed by the kids. I none of the above works, then I think
that the bug is still present!

This was fixed in Beta 119 (see Mantis ID 3888). The General Release is still on
build 112, so it isn't fixed in the GR yet.

Thank you both for the replies. I've just searched my site and find that
"someone" occurs 70 times, all occasions as far as I can immediately see
even when a spouse is known. That's a third of my marriages.
The 'someone' seems to come from the Options>Customise>Default Marriage
Wording tab, so I have changed it at your suggestion.
I can't find the 'someone' wording appearing on the individual marriage
screen.
It only seems to appear on the web pages. I haven't checked reports.
I have the latest build of Legacy.
I would hazard a guess after a quick overview that it is happening in later
inputted marriages. So earlier pages are correct but later edited (in
Legacy) pages seem to have the extra word. I gather when you update your web
pages in Legacy that it will only change html pages if there's been any
editing since last.
Anyway I am going to update the site now and see what happens.
UPDATE: It still occurs. But the 'someone' is still in the Marriage wording
for these 70. So the Customize process above doesn't seem to globally change
everything. So the only thing seems to be to go through each individually.
Is this the bug you were talking about?

Thanks
Bryan

Hello again,
I'm sorry - it's me again! Could you have a look at this page?
http://tinyurl.com/7stsqpt
I'm wondering where the <> brackets come from. It only occurs in the
Location field and as you can see only in some instances. I cannot see any
difference in the original entries on the individual's Legacy page.
I have just done some more looking and it only seems to occur when there is
no death place recorded so Legacy uses the Burial place name. And it only
seems to appear on the alphabetical Name list, which is of course connected
to the Surname list.
Those who get their tongue around the Maori placenames get an extra prize!
Thanks

I think you've answered your own question there - the locations in
brackets are burial locations in place of missing death locations.
You'll need to look at the options available when you generate the pages
to see if this can be manipulated at all.

I'd be "cheating" (or at least have a significant advantage over many
others!) if I tried to collect the prize, so will leave it for someone
else! ;-)

Brian,

Your question has already been answered, but in case you have not picked it up,
you will alson find that where a Christening location is use to replace a birth
then angled brackets are again used.

As you can see, your post got truncated. I am guessing that the rest of
your post contained HTML code which Yahoo barfed on.

I have looked at the page at the above link. Are you using some sort of
CMS (Content Management System)? After looking at the page source and
googling around a little it appears you are using Comcast's Personal Web
Pages (PWP). I assume they provide some sort of "page builder" tool for
you to use.

By the looks of the source, it looks like you went to the Comcast "page
builder" tool and pasted in the HTML source from an entire Legacy
generated page. You are not going to be able to integrate your Legacy
created web pages within PWP in this manner. Legacy web pages are
standalone. My guess is that you will have to upload your Legacy web
pages to a separate area (maybe a /genealogy/ folder under ~clarker2)
and then use whatever "page builder" tool Comcast provides to create a
PWP page that links to your Legacy built home page (or just make the
"Descendants of David Barton Kinne" menu item jump directly to
~clarker2/genealogy/ when pressed.

I can't offer much more help without more knowledge of you ISP's setup.

Dennis,

Thanks for answering. My ISP's (Comcast) page builder is cumbersome and
their tech support is less than helpful. Rather than copy & paste I
attempted to upload the files from the C:\Legacy\Web folder to a
subdirectory of my clarker2 site. I did later successfully load a pdf to a
folder (misc) to this site.
I'm off to my eye appointment now. Perhaps I'll see more clearly when I
return.

OK. Then the subdir (let's assume you called it "genealogy") should have
a file in it called index.htm (or .html). Now all you need to do is...

	 * Change the "Descendants of David Barton Kinne" menu item to point
to http://home.comcast.net/~clarker2/genealogy/. I have no idea how
you would do this in Comcast's page builder.

-or-

	 * Change the
http://home.comcast.net/~clarker2/site/?/page/Descendants_of_David_Barton_Kinne/
page with the page builder to just contain a link to
	   http://home.comcast.net/~clarker2/genealogy/.

I use my ISP-provided webpage to load my Legacy website. I've used Page
Breeze as builder. I have a main page made from a free template in a Parrott
directory, which is then spilt off into a Parrott2 sub-directory and a Bell
subdirectory. The main page is here
http://tinyurl.com/ykwrgkz
The Parrott directory has pdf's, and links to internal pages as well as
external.
Hope this helps.

A word of caution!

I have just downloaded the new version of Legacy (7.5.0.142) and found that my
Pedigree Webpage settings have been overwritten by the Legacy default. To
restore them will take an awful lot of work. I now understand that this may
happen from time to time with any update, so I strongly recommend that a back-up
of these is saved to somewhere safe, They are not saved in the normal back-up.

The files are of the form *.wf0, where the '*' is a name which you have chosen.

Did they change something in the file's format that required them to

Dennis,

I don't actually know. All that is published is a number of amendments:

"Added a new option on the Misc. tab to include custom HTML or Script to the
section of each document.
Changed the Document type back to HTML instead of XTML
Fixed a few html coding items"

The latter is not very helpful, and I will be going through the output to see
what the changes are!

However, coming back to your question Wm reports that his saved settings have
not been affected, so it looks as though it's my turn to be unlucky.

Dennis, the only obvious change which I have seen so far is that the colours are
now put in quotes ie 'bgcolor=#FFFFFF' is now 'bgcolor="#FFFFFF"', which I
expected to make no difference to the LTools output, and nor does it.

I also seem to remember that the insertion of the word "unknown" for an unnamed
individual when web creation/reports is set to 'leave blank' is no longer the
case, but I would not expect this to make any difference.

(As an aside - it seems to have corrupted one of my picture file names, no doubt
I will sort that out!)

I will be back in touch if anything else crops up.

Wm,

That confirms my experience. I have not tried the custom header, when used with
Ltools with an additional header(s) created by oneself does that work OK or have
you not tested that?

I have both custom headers and footers on each page, but those are
outside the head, so there isn't (and shouldn't be) an issue, at least
as I have tested with the google bit.

I am at a loss to see what Ken's vaunted "fixes" were. I do see all the
old familiar issues. . .

OK, Wm, I'll have a look at sticking something in the head tomorrow (later today
actually!).

I agree with your last comment; I ran a full site of over 5000 pages and all I
have found is the quotes around the colours!

I have both custom headers and footers on each page, but those are
outside the head, so there isn't (and shouldn't be) an issue, at least
as I have tested with the google bit.

I am at a loss to see what Ken's vaunted "fixes" were. I do see all the

Ron, I've just been browsing your family file. Always come to the oracle I was
told!!
I notice you use the titles Mr, Mrs, Miss. I do like the idea for the females. I
find either unknown or blank not useful and if the person has a double first
name one can never be sure whether the last name is part of the first name or a
surname.
Legacy doesn't like you entering a title on an individual's input page, although
it does seem to let you do it.
Quote:"Standardisation Tip. Name Prefix:
Mr., Mrs., Ms., Miss, Madame, etc. should not be entered into a name field.
They are not part of the person's name." Why then is the title field there then?

My question is: do you use the title as part of an AKA input? or do you put Miss
initially in the individual's input page and then do an AKA for Mrs? Or?
Regards and thanks
Bryan
