Day 1: Market Development
On this first day you will learn how to create a marketing promotion strategy to sell your films and what market research you need to undertake before starting filming. You will learn how to determine who your audience is and how to reach them, how to match your film to the needs of sponsors and private financers, and how to identify and make the most of buying trends within the industry.

Day2: Finding the Hook
In order to further assist you in developing your sales strategy, you will be invited to take a close look at your own work and discover the ‘sales angle’ for your specific products. You will analyse your latest script or script idea and will work on identifying and turning it into a viable business proposition. It will also be assessed and critiqued by the other programme participants in order to provide a solid outlook on how you can use that product to push you further into the market.

Day 3: Marketing Mix
Day 3 is a highly interactive session filled with practical exercises to help you understand the promotional tools available to you in order to deliver your marketing plan developed on day 1. You will learn how to put together your Electronic press kit (EPK), write press releases and how to develop tie-ins and merchandising deals with sponsors. You will also discuss low cost marketing options and how to set realistic budgets and time frames.

Day 4: Digital Distribution
Digital distribution has become one of the most accessible sales platforms for independent filmmakers. At this last workshop day you will uncover the ins and outs of digital distribution, including the various viewing formats, encoding for distribution, contracts, licences and sales methods (pay per view, one-off downloads, multiple down loads and mail order).
During the afternoon, a panel of distributors will offer their direct experiences of distribution on a digital platform and debate with the programme participants individual and industry concerns of piracy and protection of digital work.

Day 5: Talking Shop
The programme concludes with a ‘Talking Shop’ to give you real clarity and the confidence in taking your marketing and sales plans forward.

As a participant, you will have the chance to voice your individual issues and challenges, and with the support of the other group members find solutions and resolutions.

This session will support you with consolidating all that you have learnt during the programme, and with support from the facilitator you have time to reflect and apply what has been covered through this course into a marketing plan.
