Comments from Eamon O'Machail on Film and LBWF's Arts Strategy:
If I may give some initial thoughts as to what can be readily
integrated into the Arts Strategy.
1. Support to the formation of WF Filmmakers as a constituted body
with charitable status.
2. Carry out an audit of existing film making and screening
resources within the borough. (In terms of securing access for local
filmmakers, this may be centred on local school/ college resources.)
3. Identify and bid for external funding, including film funding
surgery with Film London/ other potential agencies.
4. Make Film one of the priority areas for Council funding through
WFAC as with, say, Visual Arts.
Following audit and access potentials it may prove necessary (due to
schools/college limitations) to consider feasibility of a(Hitchcock)
Film Centre including production and audience screening facilities.
The Granada may for many be the desired and obvious location but as
you known the future of this site remains uncertain. Until such a
time as we get direction from Cabinet as to the Cinema issue it is
difficult to include in the arts strategy a "realistic"
and "achievable" output target.
The strategy covers a three-year period thus some of the more long-
term goals will necessarily be phrased in terms of feasibility
investigations and the like.
