Hello Dave,
My father confirmed that they could carry 4 x 500lb in the main bomb bay and 6 x 250lb in the auxiliary bays - he says they were either semi armour piercing or GP (general purpose).
I have a book called "The Whitley File", an Air-Britain Publication, ISBN 0 85130 127 4, but I don't know whether this is still in print.
I hope this helps.
Regards
Tim

Subject: [Whitley_project] Bomb bay/s
..but I'd like to know how many bombs were carried in the wings, and
the design of the bomb bay.
Type of bombs ? Pictures of bombing up ? Is the Whitley designed
around the size of RAF bomb at the time (ala Stirling) ?
My quest for articles/books has turned up a copy of 'Planes' magazine
issue 11 (Feb/March '84) with part 1 of a 2 part piece. And Airfix
magazine Vol 2 No.1 (the new one! Jan '90) modelling the Frog Whitley.
Can anyone else recommend/shed light... on any Whitley stuff in
print ?
