Hi,
There were substantial undercarriage parts at the wreck site of BD232 at Llyn Dullyn, Caernedd Llywellyn. This is one of the biggest fields of wreckage from a Whitley, but what is left is mostly smallish to medium fragments, badly broken up and corroded. There were some large and interesting components there, years ago, such as a near intact rear turret. Unfortunately many of these large components have been "recovered" but I've never managed to find out what happened to them...
Elliot organised a recovery at this site last September. All the parts to be recovered were supposed to be placed in nets and then the RAF were going to loan a Chinook to lift the nets off the mountain.
Well, that was the idea. I was looking forward to going along to this one, but at the last minute it had to be cancelled due to some paperwork problems with the site being an SSI, or something.
I haven't heard from Elliot since, so I don't know if it got re-booked and done at a later date, or if it now has to wait until the better weather in the spring.
Either way, there are some large undercarriage parts 'about', somewhere!
Last time I looked at then (up the mountain) they were so broken and badly corroded that it wasn't possible to tell very much about how they folded up.
