Hello Mike,
There was (still is, hopefully) an excellent book called "Hell on high ground" by David W. Earl. There is a photograph of the Whitley tail turret which is credited 'Arthur Evans via Eddie Doylerush".
It is certainly quite mangled, with no plexiglass, but more or less complete (apart from guns, obviously!)
I think it must have been removed many years ago, but I've never heard any hint of where it went...
(I'm sure Elliot would love a tail turret!).
Please tell us more about Tangmere. Many years ago I had a program for the Tangmere aviation museum which full of very juicy specimens!
If you ever fancy a trip up any of the mountains in Snowdonia and need a walking partner, let me know. It was a regular hobby of mine, once. About 5 to 10 years ago I was up a mountain searching for wrecks most weekends. Unfortunately, I seem to have run out of walking partners! (Bored them all to death, probably ;-)
That and lack of time. I haven't got up a mountain since the recovery of the Whitley wing in Scotland a couple of years ago...
Steve
PS. I'll try to put a scan of the pic in the photos section, under 'turret'. See if you recognise it.
