I've had a look in my book J. Alden Mason - "The Ancient Civilizations of Peru." and the only information I can find in the chapter "The Cycle of Life." regarding sacred (Inca) rites for the newborn is:

"Immediately after delivery the mother washed both the child and herself in a near-by stream. The umbilical cord was preserved."

Greetings All,

I have a couple of questions I would like to ask of everyone.

First: I have noticed a large craving or need for community and companionship in myself and others the last few weeks. I have been unable to decide if this is part of a larger trend this year or not. Has anyone else been experiencing this? Or is it just a United States geographical trend right now?

Second, and more important, are there traditional blessings for a newborn? I know of the hair cutting ceremony when they are older, but what of newborns? A blessing to protect or help them? I know already what Apu would like to be involved, but am uncertain if there is more I should be doing.
