Hi everyone,

I am going to forward this email to everyone in my address book, so if you get it multiple times I am REALLY sorry..

Jess is a 20 year old girl who has been waiting for a lung transplant for 4 years now. At the moment she has 11% lung capacity. This means that, even with a machine doing the large part of the breathing for her, it is still a mission for her to breathe just sitting and not doing anything. Can you imagine struggling like that for 24 hours a day 7 days a week?? If she doesn't get her lung transplant VERY soon, Jess is going to die.

Signing up to be an organ donor is fast and easy. It takes less than 2 minutes and can be done online, by phone or even by text. To sign up online - please click this link - https://www.uktransplant.org.uk/ukt/Consent.do?campaign=1160 To register by phone, call 0300 123 2323 (Calls are charged at your contracted rate for local calls) or just text GIVE to 84118.

Please pass this email on to as many people as you can, even if you are not in the UK. The email could just possible reach someone in the UK and save Jess's life.

Thanks

Nelly

Dear all,

I'm so sorry for this mass email, but it is coming from the heart. I have a friend called Jess. Jess has CF like me, and has been waiting for a transplant now for over 4 years.

She is currently in hospital fighting for every breath. Her lungs are failing and so she is wearing a non-invasive ventilator to keep her going. I am very very scared that we are going to lose her. And all because not enough people are signed up to the Organ Donor Register.

I've attached a photo of Jess taken a while ago, and a photo as she is, lying in hospital today. Jess can be saved, if a transplant comes in time. More awareness needs to be raised about Organ Donation; it's a matter of life and death.

Please take a minute to visit www.lltgl.org.uk for more information, or to sign the Organ Donor Register visit https://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/ukt/Consent.do?campaign=1160

Please do it now, talk about it with your family and forward this to everyone you know.

Without a transplant soon, Jess will die. I don't want to lose such a wonderful girl and a special friend.

Please.

Thank you.

Emily

The ultimate aim of yoga is supreme, uninterrupted bliss
(moksha). How do we achieve it? Whether it is through study
(Jnana yoga), unconditional devotion (Bhakti yoga), yoga
practices (Raja yoga) or then through Action (Karma yoga),
applied either singly or severally, this goal can be reached.

Of these, the most relevant for us in our present
lifestyles would appear to be karma yoga (the yoga of
selfless action) because we are involved in 'busy'
activities 24/7. In fact, approaching work with the right
attitude forms the bedrock of Karma Yoga and approaching
work like a karma yogi provides us precious glimpses of the
supreme bliss that all human beings ultimately seek.

Karma Yoga is also called the Yoga of Action. To understand
the concept of karma yoga, it is important to know that
action is unavoidable. Karma yoga is the way of turning
this inevitable process to our benefit and to reach
ultimate salvation.
Through the practice of Karma Yoga our existence is
transformed from the proverbial boat that is tossed about
in choppy waters (external situations) into a rock that
faces the onslaughts with equanimity. It transforms us into
more serene and controlled individuals.

Dr. Nagendra of the reputed SVYASA Deemed University of
Yoga Research and Studies, has dealt with the subject very
effectively through his books.
In this issue, we have brought to you a sample chapter from
his book "The Secret of Action" that will give you an
insight into the philosophy of Karma Yoga - a potential
avenue for your further exploration.

Hi Everyone,

Totally forgot about this group. No one has posted since November either.

We will have to find a yoga teacher, anyone know anyone interested?
I'm loathe to close it down, I think it could be a good group.

I'll have to send out an advert.

There's been a popular misconception that yoga only means the physical
postures.  In fact, yoga is a whole lifestyle that includes yoga
postures as one of its many components. Yoga postures have physical
benefits, including curing disease, but the main benefit is mental -
they balance the emotions and calm the mind. That's because of their
effect on the glands, because it's the hormones produced by the glands
that determine the way we feel.

The first is the foot massage. Would you laugh if I told you it's more
relaxing than having a drink after work? Well it is! Why is that?
Because every part of the body has a subtle nerve connection to the
foot. So each organ has an area on the foot that directly affects it.
The top of the foot is related to the surface of the body, while the
sole is associated with the deeper organs. Maybe you noticed that if
you scratch a certain part of your foot, you can feel a twinge
somewhere else on your body. That's because of the subtle connections.
So it goes without saying that if you massage your feet you're also
indirectly massaging your whole body - external and internal. Try it
for yourself and see - first the top, then the sole. Press down with
your thumbs, like you're molding a piece of clay. If you feel an area
that's sore, spend more time there - it probably means the part of the
body connected to it is tired or injured. For example, if you have
sore shoulders from hunching over a computer all day, massage the area
on the outer part of the foot behind the little toe. See? So it turns
out there was a lot of truth behind that old story of getting your
feet massaged after a hard day's work!

Now, deep relaxation.

If it's done properly, it's more effective than sleep. Just 5 to 10
minutes of deep relaxation is more rejuvenating than one hour's sleep.
Don't believe me? Try it for yourself. But you have to do it properly
- completely relax all your muscles without sleeping. Find a warm,
comfortable place on the floor, lie down on your back with your arms
by your side, and make sure your breathing is calm and relaxed. Now go
through your whole body, starting at your feet, consciously making
sure that each part is completely relaxed - with no muscular tension
at all. Go from the feet up the legs, consciously checking each part,
into the groin area, into the abdomen (feeling that your internal
organs are also relaxed), into the chest and shoulders, from the
fingers and hands up the arms, then into the neck and up into the
face, relaxing the facial muscles, including the eyes, and finally to
the top of the head, feeling your brain is also relaxed. Check once
more that your breathing is calm and relaxed, and imagine you're lying
in the most soothing place you can think of: it could be floating on
the sea, suspended in space, on top of a mountain - wherever you like.
Now stay like that, fully relaxed, for a few more minutes. But don't
sleep! You'll soon realize the benefit of deep relaxation. It'll
prepare you for the day ahead, rejuvenate you throughout the day, and
help you sleep well at night. Do it as often as you can, especially if
you do a lot of mental work, and see how it keeps your body and mind
calm and refreshed. It also lowers the blood pressure, relieves stress
and relaxes the nerves.

There's a Zen saying: "Eat when hungry; sleep when tired." That sums
up the simple philosophy of yoga. But how often do we actually do
that? We tend to ignore the signals of our body, eat when we're not
even hungry and stay up when we're tired.

Sleep is a medicine in itself. It rests the nerve cells of the brain
and body, and preserves vital energy. When we relax, the body
recharges and the mind recovers its strength. But too much sleep is
harmful. The old saying, "Early to bed, early to rise, makes one
healthy, wealthy and wise" is still good advice. Some of those old
adages really did have a useful message!

Part 2 - Lifestyle
_____________

Welcome to Part 2 of the Yoga Health Secrets introductory
series.

Good habits lead to good health. Regulate your habits and your health
will automatically be good. I'm not saying you have to live in a
monastery. But everything should be in moderation: "Everything in
moderation, except for moderation." Buddha learnt a great lesson when
he witnessed a musician tuning the strings of his instrument. After
contemplating, he realized that everything should be like that: not
too tight; not too loose.

Over-indulgence in anything reduces our vitality. Food is essential
for life, but if you eat too much you'll die. There's a saying, "If in
doubt about eating, don't eat; if in doubt about going to the toilet,
go to the toilet!" You can even get too much water - or even air. The
point is that we should do everything in a balanced way. You don't
have to give up anything you like - just moderate it. Excess leads to
discontent. The appetite is keener at mealtimes than in between, and
so it is with everything else. There is a time and place for
everything. If you do everything at the right time and place then
you'll enjoy it all the more, and be healthier to boot.

Here's a start: If you live in the city, make a habit of going to a
natural place at least once a week. It could be a forest, a beach, the
desert, some cliffs overlooking the sea: wherever you choose, the
natural sounds and fragrances (not to mention the fresh air) will be
both therapeutic and inspiring for your body and mind. For example,
the sound of a trickling stream - or waves lapping at the shore - will
naturally sooth the mind. Remember: at least once a week - you owe it
to yourself!

MM

I am so happy for you...having your 1st Yoga session. Its wonderful isn't it . Alot of people think they are unable to do Yoga because they are not flexable or in your case in a wheelchair-- but that is one of the wonderful benifits of Yoga...anyone can do it, and everyone should try it. I realize not everyone can afford the formal classes, in those cases I suggest buying a DVD or CD with a good instructor. Anyone and Everyone is welcome to ask any questions they may have..I will do my best to answer those questions.

Well I have been slacking off on the Yoga... Hubby bought a New TV and DVD player... and has decided HE wants to move MY sacred space to the bedroom, including my Big Altar. Our Bedroom is on the Second Floor of the house, I really prefered everything in Our living room (1st floor), but I guess he doesn't , LOL. I have just made an great purchase ...inexpensive purchase.. We still have our old VHF player, even though we don't use it anylonger, I found 6 VHF tape set for literally 3.99 at a closeout store. Each tape works on different parts of your body and then 1 that is for relaxing. I haven't been able to use them yet, still augueing over Sacred Space...lol... He says my Yoga equipment and main Alter taked up too much space in the living room...Ah come on....lol

Well Lillith, congrads on your 1st session...I am sure you will get great benafit from the classes.

mm all,

i had my first lesson of yoga today. Aside from the fact i feel sick
(sick feeling in my stomach) i had my first yoga lesson today. it was
very relaxing and its nice that i can do it within my wheelchair. We
were taught how to breathe which is different from when i am singing,
and we were trying to get ourselves aware of the muscles. Now that is
a hard part, lol. Also we (and this is what we were taught in lesson 1
or 2 in the 1d) were told how to form energy and how to build it up in
your body and then form a ball of energy between your hands. So it
felt really good. Next thursday i will be going again. I'll keep you
posted of my experiences.

Merry Meet Everyone,
A tid bit I occasionally get in the email box....Hope ya'll find it interesting.

Yoga and Meditation Are
A Pair That Go Together

There "ain't nothin' wrong with yoga"... but the real question is whether it goes far enough.

Yoga is great for stretching your muscles and increasing your flexibility. It's a wonderful remedy for back pain, as study after study keeps demonstrating. There are too many benefits to mention them all. But will yoga bring you to samadhi or spiritual enlightenment?

Hardly.

Here's the scoop. Yes, yoga is fantastic. So is Pilates. So are the flexibility exercises of Scott Sonnon, which can lead you to becoming even more flexible than a yoga guru in 1-2 years time. Bodywork is also great, and so are the soft martial arts, but none of these things will totally open up your chi channels.

Hence, no real spiritual progress.

When you open up your chi channels and cultivate your chi, that flooding of chi throughout your body softens your tissues and leads to real flexibility. It also leads to better health,  longevity and REAL meditation progress. If you want to see someone who is soft and flexible, go find a master who has meditated correctly for several years and you'll understand what the softening of chi can do for your body. It can change your blood, chi channels, flesh, bone marrow, tendons, bones, air and reshape your entire body so that it looks like those beautiful statues of male and female Buddhas you find in Asia.

You see, it all depends upon opening up your chi channels and not losing your chi, while cultivating a peaceful or "empty"mind that doesn't throw up obstructions to the natural circulation of your chi.
Now yoga helps with flexibility. Pilates helps with flexibility. But without that something extra, they never lead you to anything more than a mundane result.
Meditation is that something extra, in particular emptiness meditation, which is why all the sages and spiritual schools emphasize it. It's the cure for health problems (chi passing through an are will tend to cure it), longevity (if you cultivate your chi you are cultivating your life force, hence longevity), and spiritual progress (because chi and consciousness are linked, and purified chi means a more purified or spiritual consciousness).

So how do you make yoga more effective for the spiritual path? By combining it with breathing practices geared toward opening up your chi channels, and with meditation. Don't practice yoga WITHOUT also practicing meditation and breathwork. Otherwise you're leaving money on the table -- millions of dollars, so-to-speak.

I have met countless yoga teachers, from India no less, who have extremely flexible bodies and "no chi" whatsoever. Why? Because yoga was all physical form to them rather than a means of spiritual cultivation. They didn't practice meditation and they had no clue that they want to be opening up their chi channels. Some of them even had "dirty chi" just like martial artists who don't know how to cultivate emptiness.

Now if you combine yoga with breathing methods and meditation, you're on your way, but if you don't then it's just another physical exercise that leads to decline.

So remember, if you are going to practice yoga, try to combine it with breathing practices and meditation. Otherwise you're getting very little of the maximum benefits available. The 9-bottled wind breathing practice will open up your chi channels and as to meditation, there are so many options available on the website.

Meditation for Beautiful Skin  has a bunch of meditations and exercises you can try.
(I do NOT endorse this ebook purchase!!..Sheena)

And if you want real flexibility training, beyond what yoga can possbily give you, check into the work of Scott Sonnon, which are the flexibility training methods of Eastern Europe. You see from the East we have yoga and the martial arts, from the West we have bodywork, and from Eastern Europe we have the Sonnon exercises. It's all good, and you use whatever you want according to your needs. But the additive that really supercharges all these practices is breathwork and meditation.
Remember that!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yoga is wonderful but it goes hand and hand with meditation. I find combining the 2 to be the winning combination. There are so many free meditations out there and ones you can make up yourself, or do the Buddhist way of empty mind meditation, or the simple control breath meditation.

Blessings

FOOD, LIFE FORCES AND MEDITATION

According to Yoga, everything that exists within the ultimate
Superconscious
reality Itself (which is the Witnessing Entity of all things and from
which
all things derive, but which is beyond relativity) is composed of three
basic constituents.  These are named sattva (sentient), rajas
(mutative),
and tamas (static), respectively.

Sattva is the principle of clarity or lucidity.

Rajas is the principle of dynamism.

Tamas is the principle of inertia.

The effect of the three binding principles (gun'as) are as follows:

Sattva or the sentient principle gives the knowledge of existence;

Rajah or the mutative principle commands the energy which brings about
activity;

Tamah or the static force is the stationary result of action, which
makes
things crude.

In terms of colours it can be said that Sattva is white, Rajah is red
and
Tamah is black.

The more the degree of purity, the more the predominance of Sattva -
and so
the whiter is the effect in proportion. That is why, whiteness and
purity
are often used synonymously. What is this white colour? White is no
colour,
a combination of all the colours is white. What is black colour? Black
is no
colour, want of colour is black. That is why, blackness is the emblem
of
passivity. It is the reflection of the static force. It is due to the
lack
of vibrations or the inability to apprehend them that a thing appears
as
black. In darkness form lacks vibrational expression and so we see
everything black in darkness. In sentient forms and sentient food there
is
the absorption of much light through the process of photosynthesis.
Accordingly, this is the healthiest food.

Difference in forms means difference in colours. While Tamah
(staticity) is
the prototype of passivity - a dark ravine, Sattva (sentience) is
diametrically opposite.  Although the expressed universe is a triple
qualitative flow, nevertheless in the higher pursuits of life and in a
wholistic spiritual outlook Sattva (sentient) is dominant.  Through
meditation the higher faculties of mind are developed and this
increases
one's sentience.

These three principles or forces exist in an infinite number of
combinations
both in the material and the mental realm. Some things are more static
(tamasic), others more mutative (rajasic), and a few more sentient
(sattvic).

The purpose of Yoga - Meditation - is to increase the principle of
sentience
- knowledge and clarity - in all your actions, thoughts, and feelings.
This
is part of the process of self-actualisation leading to
self-realisation.
While you are alive you can never be completely sattvic (sentient), but
you
can certainly train your mind to overcome the limitations of tamas
(staticity) and rajas (mutative) thoughts and actions.  When your mind
is
elevated away from and freed of the negative influence of staticity and
mutativity (tamas and rajas), it is like a highly polished mirror that
faithfully reflects the light of the higher consciousness.

Remember meditation is the birthright of all human beings, and leads to
an
elevated mind and arousing of spiritual thought and progress.

The type of food called sattvik food or sentient food is good for body
and
good for mind.  This type of food is light and vegetarian. It suits
one's
spiritual thoughts and spiritual progress.

The classification of food is based on 3 primary qualities (called
'gunas'
in Sanskrit) which exist in all things to a greater or lesser degree -
just
as in the universal process of generation, operation and decay.

Sentient Food - That food which is conducive to physical and mental
wellbeing. It produces sentient cells. Examples of sentient food are
rice,
wheat, barley, all kinds of pulses, milk and milk products.

Mutative Food - Food which is good for the body and may or may not be
good
for the mind, but certainly not harmful.  Examples include tea, coffee,
chocolates.

Static Food - Food which is harmful for the mind and may or may not be
good
for the body. Examples include stale and rotten food, meat of animals,
mushrooms and fungi (because they involve no photosynthesis), onions
and
garlic (due to their odour and secretions through the skin).

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Don't Overeat!

* Fill the stomach half-way with food
* One quarter with water
* Keep one quarter free for movement of air

You should have proper restraint over your food. Your food should be
nutritious, but you must not eat too much.
- Shiva's sixth secret of success in Spiritual  Life.

* Eat with ideation
* Make your meal a meditation!
* Apply Cosmic ideation and repeat your mantra for meditation as you
eat.

"This food is Brahma (God). The one who is eating is Brahma. The act of
eating is also Brahma".

Eat to live . Don't live to eat!

PUMPKIN SOUP

1 small Pumpkin -- seeded, unpeeled
2 tablespoons Oil
1/2 teaspoon Cumin seed
1 or more seeds Cardamom
1/2 teaspoon Cumin powder
1/2 teaspoon Coriander -- ground

You can add powered broth if desired.
You can also add greens and can substitute acorn or butternut squash.

Have a good meditation and meal.

THE ROBBERS ARE THE 3 GUNAS

Once a man was going through a forest, when three robbers fell upon him
and
robbed his possessions.

One robber said, "What's the use of keeping this man alive?" So saying,
he
was about to kill him with his sword, when the second robber
interrupted
him, saying: "Oh! No! What is the use of killing him? Tie his hands and
feet
and leave him here." The robbers bound his hands and feet and went
away.

After a while the third robber returned and said to the man: "Ah, I am
sorry. Are you hurt? I will release you from your bonds." After setting
the
man free, the thief said: "Come with me. I will take you to the public
highway." After a long time they reached the road. At this the man
said:
"Sir, you have been very good to me. Come with me to my house." "Oh,
No!"
The robber replied. " I can't go there.  The police will know it."

This world itself is the forest.  The three robbers prowling here are
sattva, rajas, and tamas. It is they that rob a man of the Knowledge of
Truth. Tama wants to destroy him. Raja binds him to the world. But
Sattva
rescues him from the clutches of Rajas and Tamas. Under the protection
of
Sattva, a human being is rescued from anger, passion and other evil
effects
of Tamas. Further, Sattva loosens the bonds of the world. But Sattva
also is
a robber. It cannot give a person the ultimate Knowledge of Truth,
though it
shows him or her the road leading to the Supreme Abode.  Setting the
person
on the path, Sattva tells him/her: "Look yonder.  There is your home."
Even
sattva is far away from the knowledge of Brahma (God).  The Absolute is
beyond all binding principles and beyond all relativities.
