Hi Glyn
Many thanks for this. We should meet soon in order to be sure we are singing from the same hymn sheet at the Cabinet Meeting on 11th Feb. It's a pity you wont be there; we need to ensure there is a good representation from the User/Campaign Group.
My stance hasnt changed on this one! Both before and since election to represent this ward, I have fought to ensure the best possible future for York Hall. From my perspective, this has sometimes required out and out opposition to the Council (e.g. in order to get them to back down from closure); on other occasions it has required a certain amount of compromise (trusting the professionals rather than the politicians) and realism as to what is feasible within budgetary and funding constraints.
As for a date for meeting. The only time I can do before you go away (other than the weekend) is Thursday evening after 9pm. Is that possible for you? Maybe meet over a pint - the Approach?
I have copied this to Yahoo Group to see if anyone else would like to join us. If you can make Thurs at 9/9.15 please reply to all. If not, at the weekend I could do: Saturday afternoon or Sunday evening.
Cheers
John

thanks for your reply. Your stance of giving the Council 'the benefit of the doubt' is not one I share (and seems a bit of an odd position for an opposition politician!)
Unfortuantely, I am going to be in Texas between 2nd and 13th Feb. so will not be around for the Council decision. I am still very worried about the state of affairs and feel that it is essential that we, as the campaign group, have some clear expectations about what we expect from them.
At the moment, we don't know if the Council will make any financial commitment and if they do, whether it will be a penny of ten million pounds! I think, at the very least, we need to be going to that meeting with some minimum expectations e.g. a financial figure, say £3 million, any less than which we will consider an inadequate response by LBTH to the situation at York Hall.
Can we meet for a chat?
Best
G
