To: York Hall Users
As you know, the contract for managing the London Borough of Tower Hamlets' Leisure Services (including York Hall) passed to Greenwich Leisure Ltd on 1st May of this year.
GLL has now had nearly 6 months to settle in and is beginning to make plans for the refurbishment of the facilities at York Hall. These plans are largely based on those which were proposed by the York Hall Consultative Committee set up following the campaign in 2003 to save York Hall.
I attach a paper which was discussed at the Tower Hamlets Council Cabinet meeting on 1st September regarding the proposed phased refurbishment of York Hall, 2004-7.
I am keen that the Users Group is now formally constituted and begins to meet on a regular basis with the new contractor, GLL, in order to ensure a strong and sustained user input to, and involvement in, the refurbishment process.
To this effect I am meeting the GLL Contract Management Team next week and will look to convene a full meeting of the User Group before the end of September. A notice of the date and time will be posted at York Hall and a further email to this group will go out shortly.
