Subject: RE: Turkish baths refurbishment - request for information
Hello Paul,
The only real information that I can give you at the moment is that
the
Turkish Baths is scheduled (at present) for refurbishment in September
2005.
I will consult with LBTH and the Project Officer (Colin McBride) on
points 2 - 8) and get some feedback to you all in the next couple of
weeks.Plans are still being formalised and I myself am still waiting
for
a full update.
The user survey has been very helpful to us at York Hall and once we
have been through all the results I can comment more on points 1-4 of
what happens on reopening.
Sorry I cannnot be more help as there are still some key decisions to
be
made.
I will pass your email onto LBTH/Colin Mcbride and when I get back
from
annual leave we can all meet up and hopefully have some more up to
date
information for you.
The Turkish Baths refurbishment was pushed back due to Reception/Gym
projects running late and that is why I have not met with TB group as
I
have not really had clear information to pass on.
I will be in touch when I am back from annual leave.
Regards
Garry

Dear Garry
I am a York Hall user and we have met with others on a number of
occasions to discuss the future of the Turkish baths. You very kindly
kept us in touch with progress on the baths but I am a bit concerned
that it has been so long since we last met and that we still dont have
any idea what plans are intended.
I wonder if you would be good enough to let me have answers to the
following questions:
1. When is it envisaged that work will start on the Turkish baths
refurbishment and when will it finish?
An indication will be sufficient at this stage.
2. When can we see the outline plans of what Greenwich Leisure/ Tower
Hamlets council intends to do? I find it bizarre that we still havent
had sight of these plans.
3. What period will be scheduled for feedback and input into the plans
from users? I know there is some consultation going on at the moment
but
t we need to be able to respond to the plans once they are prepared.
4 Who, or what body/committee will be responsible for final decisions
on
the refurbishment plans?
5 Will at least two representatives (one male, one
female) be invited to be part of this committee or decision-making
body?
7 What is the budget for refurbishment of the baths and when will it
be
possible to see a breakdown of costs?
8 What is the structure of decision-making between the council and
Greenwich Leisure? What are GLLs contractual obligations to Tower
Hamlets?
With regard to how the baths are used once they reopen, can you tell
me:
1. Who will make decisions on how it is run?
2. What input will present users have on how it is run?
3. Is there any intention to significantly change the way it is
presently used?
4. Is a substantial increase in entry fee envisaged?
Sorry there are so many questions but at the moment we are in a bit
of a
fog and I would like the user group to have the benefit of what light
you can shed on these issues. This is why I am copying this email to
Mark Mitchell, a moderator for the York Hall users group website. If
you prefer, a group of us could arrange to meet you to listen to your
answers to these questions and I can take minutes and put the minutes
up
on the website. It would also be good to have someone at the meeting
who is responsible for the refurbishment of the baths and how they
will
be run as you have said in the past that this is not your
responsibility.
Thanks so much.
Best wishes, Paul Milican
