Re: [Yorkhall] York Hall users group meeting - reporting back (2nd Attempt)

Thanks to Mark for the report.  I think what we were presented with on Thursday was more or less what the Group has predicted, namely a policy that will deter local people and long-term users from using OUR facilities, through a combination of price rises and changes in the 'culture' of the place we know and love.  I think we need to try and retake some control of the situation.

The blatant attempt by GLL/LBTH to control and manipulate the agenda of the meeting reminded me of the approach adopted when they were trying to soften us up for closure.  I'm not suggesting that this is what's happening now, although had there been an opportunity, I would have liked to ask why York Hall is still zoned for residential redevelopment in the borough's development plan.

The immediate problem, however, is the prospect of loyal, long-term and often low income users being unable to use the facilities because they can't afford it and I think this is the front we should fight on.  I suggest some combination of the following-

a)  A meeting of the group to discuss tactics for a campaign.  I'm sure St Margaret's House would host us.  I will arrange if people agreee.
b)  We request another meeting with GLL and LBTH, but this time without the PowerPoint presentation and perhaps with relevant Councillors invited.
c) A deputation/petition to a future Council meeting.

Like Paul B, I also think the pricing policy is not only wrong in principle, but probably not viable from a business point of view.  WIth the long term future of York Hall, still, in my opinion, in doubt, I would not want to see GLL starting to lose money because they have over-priced their 'product'.

Best wishes

Glyn
