I went for a weekend break to Cologne and discovered a wonderful new
thermal spa in the Rhein Park.

The entire sauna areas were textile free - that is naturist - it was
the rule for hygiene, it was the 'etiquette' of use. London Spa take
note. Naturism was the accepted norm. Nothing was sexual. Everyone
behaved - except for some mutual caressing between opp. sex couples.
For those of a shy disposition towelling robes could be hired for use
in the relaxation areas - but were not to be warn in the actual hot
rooms.
When I spoke to some of the staff they were truly horrified at the
unhygienic 'etiquette' of London Spa in insisting that swimming
costumes be worn in the turkish bath / sauna areas. They strongly
opined that swimming costumes were loaded with bacteria from sweat,
urine and faecal matter, and that also the dyes of the 'textiles' can
be toxic to others. Au natural with frequent showering ensured complete
hygiene for others.
Indeed I came out of the Ottoman steam bath and was about to enter the
Jacuzzi when I got a severe telling off - in German - for not showering
first!!
I will NEVER go to the stupid London Spa - nor any other - that
promotes such unhealthy practices as insiting upon wearing a bathing
costume in the turkish bath / steam / sauana area.
