Dear Sir/Madam, or
FAO: Professor Leslie Bethell
Following the news that the Brazilian Centre in Oxford was shut down and now it is operating thorugh the Latin America Centre,I would like to enquire about the reasons for it, as other students members of the "Brazilian Association of Students in the UK" are enquiring about the very same subject.
The last annual report shows the centre having an intense work throughout the year, so why suddenly the centre run out of sponsorship ?
Unfortunately, I was studying in the UK since 2004, and personally I believe that the Brazilian Centre was having problems of communication with the student community in general, because many new students, like me, did not know exactly how to get engaged with the centre or even knew
about its existence and how to benefit from it!
In the end, we just received the news that it was closing down for lack of sponsorhip from public and private companies.
We would like to have further explanation why those companies stoped sponsoring the centre, together with the financial statement of the centre and how the public money was used to sponsor it. This will certainly help us to clarify for our members the whole situation.
Together with that, could you briefly explain how the Brazilian Centre, now operating through Centre of Latin America Studies, would affect the academic community ?
This, in fact, represent a loss for brazilian researchers and academic community in general? Why?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
yours
sincerely,
Alan Kutassy
