Hi Karin,
I live between Cwrt and Trefri but I known nothing of the Rees family
I'm afraid. The families I know of in that area are the Morgans,
Moles and Roberts but I think one of them is probably on the move as
there has been a 'for sale' sign at the end of the road leading up
the hill for some weeks now. I suggest you try phoning Dyfi Marine
who's owner lives in the area, they may be able to help. You will
find their number and email address on the Aberdyfi page of the
www.dyfi.com web site.

Brian.

you heard of the Porthcawl bottle bank? a new building put up instead
of the Victorian Esplanade hotel. They couldn't keep the facade
because it cost too much so we have a very modern building next to an
old building-it looks terrible and is the source of amusement! They
hope to get rid of the fair and put a development on it I've heard
houses etc - the services will be overstretched. I'll keep you
posted. Any luck in tracing any of the Rees family of Trefri fach,
Cwrt and Machynlleth. I would be interested in hearing from them All
the best Karin

Dear Brian I do know what you mean, here we seem to be controlled by those who don't take notice of the opinions of individuals. Karin, you are part of the Group. The 'Group' in Yahoo Groups is the
collective of individuals who join, it doesn't mean you have to be part
of another group to join in. Everyone can participate.

Sorry you see Aberdyfi as losing its character but I agree with your
prognosis. I don't think it is caused by the residents or shopkeepers,
it's more to do with the way everything is regulated and controlled
these days. Almost everything in the Village needs aproval from some
authority these days and the centralisation of bodies imposing
regulations will inevitably result in all places being squeezed into
the same mould.

I monintor the local Council meetings and believe me, the amount of
frustration is huge. Almost all suggestions for improvements raised at
the meetings are either blocked or watered down by bodies answering to
central government.

Brian.

I am an individual not a group butI am an active coordinator of the
Neighbourhood watch but my interest in Aberdyfi comes from my mother
who lived at Trefri fach farm (up for sale I see. How much) and then
at Morlais on the sea front. I was wondering if any of her ex family
are still in the area; Her name was Catherine Ann Rees( and her mother
was called Sarah Francis whose needlework and cooking were according
to my mum legendary.) My Mum went to Tywyn school and then to Aber
Uni; she was in Hall; on getting her BA she went south and taught in
Ogmore Vale grammar school and then met and married my father .
I was in Aberdyfi yesterday and was shocked to see how like my local
of Porthcawl it had rundown to . The local paper shop needed educating
in the ways to assist strangers they obviously hadn't been to charm
school. Unlike the garage takeaway I stopped at on the way back down
south.
Seeing you are a group (my mistake) I don't know if (especially with
my acid tongue) you'd want me to contribute to your website. I can
give you CHAT about my village and the goings on(clean type!) down
Newton bay where I live. Yours Karin
