Hugo and others have kindly pointed out that the Kings Caple site
may well not be a strip as it is quite narrow, however I have sometimes
been told by UL/weight shift pilots that they have landed on strips
less than ten feet wide especially if the grass/agriculture is not high
enough to interfere with their wings....
The strip at Townsend Farm at Waterperry is most definitely NOT
Parsons Farm which is 1.5 miles NW of the village, whereas as I said,
Townsend is located on the immediate NW side of the village with the
strip west end butting onto the motorway!
OK: another real one... whilst still trying to locate the base of a
Jodel given as 'Torbay' I was using Multimap old site when I suddenly
caught sight of a blue light a/c and what turned out to be a weight
shift micro both on the ground at Marldon near Torquay. On looking at
the Google Earth site I can see what looks like a runway in a well
trimmed small field, though the aircraft were not in the picture so I
suspect the strip has been there for some years!! The co-ordinates are
map ref 860636 just over half way between the Marldon churches and the
hamlet of Aptor.
