Does anyone have the names to hand of these airfields please?

3 = Small grass airstrip that runs NE/SW and the centre is the gap in the hedge

Chris
Thanks for getting back to me....
A few comments, particularly about Caunton...   I really wanted to update you about this one as it may save some anguish.
This is the message I sent

Chris
I think your comments about Caunton, Notts should be upgraded - they might prevent some hassle.
The airfield operator was downright rude when I contacted him but after some decidedly unfriendly e-mails it became banter and I have now got an in with him.  He left me feeling very angry, something that takes a lot of doing.
He will be abusive and threaten visitors and will not allow them in even if they try to arrange beforehand. This happened to me and I could cheerfully have hit him.  I have now managed to get in simply as he needed some photos doing. He was less than polite even though I was there by invitation. An unannounced Air Britain trip with about a dozen turning up was the straw that broke the camel's back - they had asked, been told it was not convenient yet still turned up.
However, the hangars are adjacent to and a part of an active pig farm where disease prevention measures are always in place and it is part of his arrangement with the farmer/landowner to restrict visitors to users.
There were well top side of 30 residents, mainly flex-wings, present last Sunday.

Hougham, rather suspicious of visitors.   First visit they turned me away but asked my name. (I am a fairly well known photographer of GA)  Tried again and they had checked me out and had gone from one extreme to the other.

Darlton....very friendly, weekends and bank holidays only.  Unlikely to see anything in hangar and locked gate from road at other times.  3 gliders and one motor glider present on my visit but 20+ trailered gliders present

Widmerpool, Notts.   There were actually two strips but I was told last week that both have been ploughed up and I drove past South Lodge on the A46 last week and it certainly looked like it had.

Not found it yet but there is a strip near Six Hills, North of Leicester and apparently close to the A46, six residents

Hi Martin,
I got the following from Wikipedia ~ Starfish Sites were simulations of burning towns that were constructed in Britain during World War II. They were used to decoy German night bombers away from bombing real towns. Towns thus successfully protected included Bristol, Sheffield and Derby (see ref 3, Hunt).
In which case they must have been fairly extensive to simulate a burning town and presumably would have only been lit when an enemy bomber force was expected?

Thanks Dave,

Is it possible to source these updates online or do you have to own a
UK pilots licence.
I see Mullaghmore is apparently closed AGAIN!!.
Causeway. Odd to use the name of a location over 11nm NNE of the site.
15ft amsl sounds right. It's a pity they dont give a bit more detail.

Hi Dave,

My name is Hugo Wilhare. I'm building a database of aviation sites in
Ireland.
So this site is of interest to me. I contacted a friend who tries to
keep up to date on aviation
events in that area. He replied as follows:

>I wonder if this is the site where Mark Holmes (Ex Mullaghmore) was
going to set up
>shop..? I don't know much else on this one at the moment I'm afraid.

Got this of G-INFO
MARK CARSON HOLMES Re G-BOLL
67 MAIN STREET
PORTRUSH
BT56 8BN

The co-ords are at the townland of Ree. The site is on the western
shore of the river Bann,
which places it Co Derry not Antrim with possible direct access to
the river. The road to the site is via
the Ree Road from the A54 at Milltown Bridge. It's 2nm N of the
Mullaghmore strip and as
you say (3m) 2.5nm WSW of Ballymoney (that's in Co Antrim). For years
I've heard of a
Marine aviation base on the river Bann, I couldn't pinpoint the
location. It would seem that
this is not the missing location a sit's too new. If I find out
anymore I'll let you know.

Would it be possible to scan that section of the update and mail it
to me.

Hugo.

Just noticed on one of the CAA's chart updates mention of a strip at N 55 03

Hi Folks,

I'm on a mission for a frien din New Zealand, he's trying to identify
what colour schemes Tiger Moth G-ADLU / NZ-735 / ZK-ARJ has worn over
the years.

The details behind the three tail numbers are:
G-ADLU - in the ownership of the London Aeroplane Club (1935-1940)
NZ735 - in the RNZAF (1940-1948)
ZK-ARJ - with numerous owners since 1948

Can anyone suggest where I might try to get some info on this old girl
(I'm more of a Jaguar GR1 guy myself).

Cheers,

Brennig.

I would suggest that your best source on this sort of Moth-related query would be Stuart McKay - secretary of the de Hav  Moth Club - his knowledge is encyclopedic.  His e-mail is dhmoth@...

I have added eight new photos taken this year on my travels. I hope
you all enjoy. Any questions: feel free to ask.
Regards, and Merry Xmas to all. Richey
PS I shall add more soon, and also a compilation of the strips I know
about in Wales.

Hi

I am updating and compiling an extensive database of Joyride, Circus, Flying Display Tours of UK & Ireland.

I have had very extensive information from Malcolm Fillimore

Amongst the listings I have, I am trying to obtain extra information on the following below.

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction for any research.

I have already gleaned information from books by Colin Cruddas and Alf Jenks,

I have seen books by Pauline Gower and Tony Blake, which I will reorder from my library

Regards  Martin Burney

Information required on :

Scottish Motor Traction ( SMT ) Tour In 1933

Flying Fair ( Starling ) Tour in1934

Municipal Aerodrome Campaign dates in 1929

C D Barnard 1931 Tour

Pauline Gower's Tour in 1931

Yes, Martin, having bought Lockyears' 5th last April, I was also
taken aback at the new section on both Irelands' airstrips, but
although I have done little research in these areas I guess it is
like the majority of the UK : there must still be many strips we have
not heard of yet!!!
Here's hoping many more will join this and other sites and
supply the info eh?
I'll be back in the new year with some new stuff but for now
welcome to the latest members and a very merry Xmas and happy new
year to all...... Richey.

I am extending my database of Joyride Locations, Flying Circus's and Pagents.

I already have quite a list, but I would like to extend that list, to give precise locations, dates and include company's that I have no listing for.

If you have any info, would you pleas pass it on.

I enclose a list of names of the operators, but would appreciate any other names.

Richey - if you mean the place at N50.47.36.72/W2.35.20.35...I don't
think those are runways .

If you compare them with the wheeltracks by the building at the SW
corner of the field ...the "runways aren't much wider than that - say 8
to 10ft max - bit tight even for a micro.Add to that the fact that the
SE end of the SE/NW one finishes apparently in a sizeable tree, and I
think this one may be a non-starter.

However - I'm willing to be convinced!

:)

Just seen today on Google Earth a multi runway orchard? field at
Cattistock- Grove Hall Farm in Dorset; looks like short runways so
probably for microlight or ultralight types... 1 mile SSW of the
Chalmington strip, at ref 586996.
    Best wishes, Richey

Hi

Until recently  the multimap website using ordnance survey, provided amsl's.

The new version does not give this.

Are there any online maps that provide amsl's
