PART ONE.
Hello all, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all recent members since my
last welcome message.
I have been able to do some checking in recent weeks and have updated several of
the county files with new strips and some ammendments.
At the recent Devon Strut regional fly-in I chatted to a gent I've been looking
to meet for a few years and to my surprise he told me that the ''Pepperbox''
strip near Salisbury was only a ruse to keep spotters away- it was/is actually
the strip at Coombe Bissett in Wiltshire and is in my file; said location being
several miles away from the one given in the Air-Britain and LAAS UK registers!!
There was, however, a short-lived micro strip on a farm near Pepperbox Hill just
north of Whiteparish a few years ago but this did not last long.
The same day I got info about a recent strip with two runways called 'Tracy
Island' just to the north of a hamlet called Street to the east of Chard in
Somerset; I had been personally presuming this was the strip at Two Ash Farm but
I'm most happy it is not!
There is a small micro strip which appears to be on land connected to the main
strip at Sedgewick Park near Nuthurst in Sussex, and north-east of Southwater in
the same county appears to be a small strip very near Kings Farm only a few
hundred yards north of Jackrells Farm.
Others recently identified will follow in part two of this message.
Best wishes to all. Richey.

DELETE IT BECAUSE HE IS A HACKER!!
Martin,
This is a hoax. Whenever you receive a warning like this, it's worth checking
the major antivirus sites and Snopes before perpetuating the circulation.

Anyone-using Internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on. This information arrived this morning, Direct from both Microsoft and Norton. Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless e-mail titled 'Mail Server Report'
If you open either file, a message will appear on your screen saying: 'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful.'
Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC, And the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password.
This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon. AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the anti virus software's are not capable of destroying it .
The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner'.

Hello everyone, just found this useful group and would like to start the ball
rolling on Warwickshire strips as there appears to be no listing yet for one
here ? as and when I will highlight a few in case anyone should visit the area
and wish to contact the strip owners for visits by road or by air,the first
strip I would like to mention is Bericote farm which lies just outside
Leamington to the North, the strip consists of two fields made into one and have
a slight curve, the best road landmark is the Chesford Grange hotel which is
right at the end of the runway.
Operated by Cathy Silk the strip since yesterday is now devoid of one of its
inmates as Tiger Moth G-AVPJ suffered engine failure on the 13th April over the
disused Honeybourne airfield and sadly turned over on landing badly damaging
it,the other aircraft based here is G-JTWO Cub J2 which may not be here for long
as it is up for sale at £19,000,the spares ship Ryan PT.22 G-BPUD went to Wills
Pastures with Peter Holloway but has now been sold in the USA for a major
rebuild, not sure if the Bristol Bullet replica is still here that was being
slowly rebuilt in the barn for the Bristol collection ? also the BOB film
replica Bf.109 and Hurricane have long since moved on from the courtyard area
where they were stored outside.
The only other annual visitor has been a Kitfox which calls in for the Royal
Show every year.
Hope that this is of interest to someone here.
Barry.
Got it. My attempt at a link failed, as it reverted to it's original start location.

A quick Google search using HR1 4TU and Aramstone brings back details of horse
training and a stud farm.
So Dave's deduction looks to be correct that its a horse related feature.

I would agree, plus it's too narrow IMHO to be a usable strip.

Hello.
I am not convinced that it is an airstrip, probably a running track for horses.
If you look at the turning circle at the west end, there appears to be fences,
which wouldn't normally be put there if aeroplanes use it (unless you know for
sure aircraft have landed there!)

My Wife is disabled and I am thinking of taking her for a nice ride out soon, somewhere nice in the Derbyshire Dales.
I haven't been there for years but it was always friendly (most glider places are). It is easy to find on Google Earth, a lot of trailered machines. I will let you have an update if I can con her :-)
Your help has been invaluable in finding some of these out of the way places and I will now try to do my bit to keep you up to date. I love photographing at these out of the way places.
Thanks for the updates Mick. Collecting gliders and visiting glider fields is all fairly new to me. I've only started collecting gliders since I bought Aerodata database, same with military, they all count now! Regarding my site, http://AircraftSpotting.co.uk, I've actually just completed a major update to the 'Spain' page of my site, including a new look and format that will make it a lot easier to read and find what you are looking for. Details are being sent out in the email update newsletter, if anyone wants to join email me direct.
Now I'm done with the shameless plug, I'll get Great Hucklow added and Oxton updated where necessary.
Thanks again
Chris

Visited Oxton, Notts yesterday, incredibly friendly, first words 'We'd better get the kettle on ' About 12 based at Oxton but I have made several visits before getting any activity (apart from the tea)
Two aircraft came in G-CCDV and WLSN both from Swanwick Derbys where three are based.
Clearly visible to NNE of Swanwick on Google Earth.
Another strip SSE of the village, immediately north of railway sidings. One based, no further details but only allowed 28 movements per annum Has its own hangar so you would be very lucky to catch it !
Great Hucklow, Derbys does not seem to feature on Chris's guide....a very active glider field.

I've seen reported a Swaffham-Etthornes Farm on the old Fly site a Google search
still brings this up. But I've not tracked down other documents to support that
name, however the OS map shows this area as 'Great Friars Thornes' so maybe that
is the name of the site. The Google Earth show quite a few battery farm type
buildings not on the Flash Earth image so maybe no longer active?

This is Main Hall Farm, Conington - (page 217 of Lockyears 5th edition)
confusion is possible due to two Conington villages in Cambridgeshire!, the
other one having Peterborough-Conington Airfield (EGSF) near to it.

hedge here (airfield newer than flashearth image);

No idea on this one!
