How very disconcerting to see 27 Feb.2001 as a poss.last posted
message date. However, I will perserve in the hopes that Alan
Titchmarsh may eventually read this.
I am a 61 female born and for the most part, bred in the North of
England, just outside Doncaster. A gardener, of sorts for most of my
life. A woman who grew up in idlyic surroundings,(I now live in
Portsmouth and Spain).Am currently coming towards the end of
reading "Nobbut A Lad"" which, because of health issues ( I had
breast cancer 3yrs ago. fine for 18mths, but then struck with 3
secondaries, all under control, but 6wks. ago given the news that I
maybe, just maybe only have 6-12 months to live!). Well, we Yorkshire
people do not accept such news, and am indeed as I write, doing
exceptionally well. Easy light, humorous with quality to it has
therefore come to the forefront, and I bought your book in WHS and
have been reading it during the wee small hours, smiling, laughing,
just feeling happy to read all the memories you have recalled in such
succint fashion - joy! (yes, am sure you have been uncertain about
events recalled to memory, was it photos, a remark someone made, or
genuinely true keenly remembered memories - I believe yours are and
were true memories, poss. with help from your sister Kath - the
clarity is too great. This story of your life in the 50's has moved
me to do something similar, though definately not for publication -
family use only and in the wee small hours when the steroids have me
Mrs. Whirling Dervish I have started to tackle this, I have reached
the age of 8 now!!! And so, this is just to say thankyou, for giving
me that extra boost. It is going to be such fun trying to type at
least 4 pages a day. I have 3 more of your books yet to read -
gardening books no longer required, although pleasing to glance
through. So your Fiction only. Good luck in all your new ventures -
I have not watched you on UK TV of late, but am sure it will happen.
Thank you for taking the time -poss. to read this. From a woman who
I think has good taste in men - confirmed this weekend by my
Cambridge Acaedemic Doctorate brother-in-law, who finds you
absorbing - and REAL!!! Regards, Geni Yates
