RIGHT POLICIES FOR DEMOCRATIC BURMA

Contents [ Read more on http://www.burmadigest.org.uk ]

I. " What economic model for Burma? "_ Editorial: Tai Samyone

_ Burma's road to socialism was a disaster to the economy from which the country has not yet recovered.  The military have attempted to introduce a market economy, but one which they control and which their officers and officials use as a means of extracting personal wealth, not national growth.   Western capitalism has only delivered prosperity for the home population because it has been regulated or controlled by an independent legal and judicial system that sets the ground rules for commerce, employment, trade and business dealings..... ......

II. " Report to the People" _ Special Report : Prof. Dr. Ma Tin Yee

_ It was discovered that the brave ones joined the ethnic armies and got killed, the timid ones drifted into the nearest town to become illegal workers, many got involved in narcotics while most of them get married soon and the vicious cycle begin again. The population in the refugee camp exploded threatening the surrounding villages. Something must be done. .........

III. " Layman view on Right-wing policies for Burma" _ Feature Article: AKS

_ It claims that Nethandral species, in which everyone was a hunter but didn't understand trading of goods and sharing of workload, vanished from earth Millions of years ago. They could not compete with Homo sapiens who had better economic policies and practices. ... ........

IV. " Laissez-faire & Libertarianism for Liberated Burma "_ Feature Article: Dr. San Oo Aung

_  As we already knew the utterly failed results of socialist authoritarian policies, we cannot turn the wheels of history back and repeat the same mistakes, but we have to use the different ways such as really free market economies, unity under federalism, real democracy, respect for human rights of all citizens, guarantee of individual freedom, transparent corruption free government, and rule of law in our future democratic Burma. ..............

V.  "An Economic Model: Making Economic Policy in UK " _ Feature Article: Khin Ma Ma Myo

_ By looking at the above British economic policy making process, it is clear that various actors involve in different areas so that appropriate policies can be adopted for national interests. It is contrary to the current economic policy making process in Burma with the lack of dominant role for central bank to set interest rates, overwhelming corruption, poor knowledge of the key players, non-existence of Parliament and trade unions and the command nature of the military government. .. ........

VI.  "Womenomics in Burma "_ Feature Article: Ko Sala

_ the employers in Burma have learnt to exploit and capitalise young females in their primes.  Behind the veil of apparent exploitation of women, I witnessed an array of economic activities in which women play a crucial role in modern Burma.  Not to mention, a few men with bullets are extremely frightened of this woman under house arrest too. .. ........

VII.  " Betraying their Fellow Fallen Soldiers "_ Translated Article: Dr. San Oo Aung

_ The Myanmar Junta Generals had broken their pledges and vows that they made routinely, "We would honour and respect the dignity of the fallen soldiers." Because these Military Dictators had repeatedly broken the country's constitution and committed the coup d'états few times, it is no wonder they had ignored and broken the four vows that all the Myanmar Military used to undertake .. ...........

VIII. " It is not enough to feel sad"_ Poem : Feraya (Dedicated to refugees from Burma)

_ It is not enough that we feel sadness. .........It is not enough that we feel pain ..........Do not shut your eyes ..........Because you can't bear their suffering .......... And it is too much for you to cope with.. ........

IX. " The National Democratic Front of Burma" _ History Review: Dr. Tayza

_ Negation of restructure of Burma into a federal union and consequent suppression of their aspirations by successive governments that came into power after independence prompted the ethnic peoples with no other alternative but to make resistance. Realising that only by forming united front could victory be attained, the ethnic people's National Democratic Front (NDF) came into existence on 10the May 1976. ....... ....

X. " Genocide Olympics"_ Cartoon: Feraya

XI. "Those who were arrested on May 2007 " _ Announcement: AAPP

_ Even though the military regime in Burma claims internationally and domestically that they are building the country with disciplined democracy, they never abide the rule of law of the country and good governance. Moreover, the regime itself commits crimes and breaks the rule of law. The fact that the above mentioned were arrested proves the regime's real attitude. ...... ....
