[Vote on http://burmadigest.info/2007
The year of 2007 is nearly over now.
2007 saw a lot of dramatic developments in politics of Burma. Numerous various activists inside Burma all contributed their efforts and made a lot of personal sacrifices to make all those developments happen in Burma.
First, 2007's opening salvos came with the UN Security Council formal discussions on Burma, followed by China & Russia's veto against UN Security Council's resolution for intervention in Burma.
Then there was efforts by pro-junta groups in Burma to denounce UN interventions and sanctions on Burma.
Then there was a few small but quite significant social-oriented demonstrations to protest inflations and electrical power cuts, etc.
And there was, of course, the final session and completion of the 14 years long National Convention, and its pro-military guidelines for the future constitution of Burma.
And there came, the fuel-price hikes leading to demonstrations and protests by hundreds of people all over the country, which in turn led to the arrest of '88 generation leaders.
Then, the explosion of people's resentments and hundreds of thousands of people coming out onto street, led by Buddhist monks, to call for reforms in the country.
The following bloody crack down and consequent international outcry forced military junta to negotiation table.
Gambari's visits.
Gambari meeting Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and Sen. Ge. Than Shwe.
Appointment of U Aung Kyi as Liaison Minister for negotiations between Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and military junta, and United Nations.
Meetings between U Aung Kyi & Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
Surprise meeting between Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and leaders from her party NLD.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's statement, conveyed via Gambari, calling for better efforts for genuine negotiations.
Here again, we need to recognize that numerous various activists inside Burma all contributed their efforts and made a lot of personal sacrifices to help all those historic political developments happen in Burma in 2007.
So, from among them who do you think is the PERSON OF THE YEAR 2007.
