The local chess club for Altrincham, Hale, Timperley, Sale and surrounding areas

We are always keen to welcome new members to Altrincham and Hale Chess Club. We are a friendly chess club with a wide range of playing strengths.
As well as Altrincham and Hale, we are the local chess club for Timperley and Sale and surrounding areas. The aim of the club is to give our members the opportunity to play and improve their chess and, above all, to enjoy it. While we have members of all ages, we are always keen to encourage junior chess players. If you are new to club chess, don’t worry about asking about using chess clocks, recording moves, chess grades or anything else – there will always be members who will be happy to help.

The club meets every Tuesday from 7.30 p.m. in a room upstairs at The Navigation on Manchester Road, Altrincham, at the junction with Navigation Road. There is a car park at the back of the pub, regular buses along the A56 and Navigation Road Metro station is a short walk away. The club is open throughout the year, although the main playing season is from September to April. If you decide to join us, it will cost £20 a year (or £10 if retired and free for juniors under 18). This includes your registration with the English Chess Federation, Cheshire and North Wales Chess Association and local leagues – so that you can play in our teams if you wish.
