Not sure about the last two, but Goldsworthy postcards come up for
sale fairly regularly on eBay. Most of these are postcards produced at
the same time as his two sets of British postage stamps, but I've
certainly seen others on there - at least one set which must have been
produced for an art exhibition.

I hope this helps,

Brian

I believe there are 3 or so postcards of Andy Goldsworthy's earlier
works, around 1990. Does anyone know where I could obtain a set of
these postcards?

Also, I am very interesting in buying a copy of "Sand Leaves"

Thanks!

There's an ongoing touring exhibition, 15 photos of early AG works,
going round the UK - currently in Oswestry, with coming displays in
Bodelwyddan Castle, Wednesbury, Plymouth, Thornbury, Lochmaddy and
Cardigan (i.e. Wales/Western England).

Full dates are on the calender at

Hello everyone,

A few quick items on new Goldsworthy works or shows.

1. There will be an AG exhibition at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, UK,
from March to September 2007. I think someone may have found and
photographed one of the works already:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/hohlwelt/225542024/

2. Also, I read that there is a plan for AG to produce "a major
landmark work that will be visible from the air" at Tatton Park,
Cheshire, UK. I can't find any details of when this is to happen, it's
possible that it already has!

3. AG snowball drawings now on display at Glen Carlou in South Africa:
http://www.wine.co.za/news/news.aspx?NEWSID=8886

4. AG also will feature in an exhibition at Roanoke, Western Virginia,
USA, running from 22 September 2006 to 11 February 2007:

Hi all, it's a bit quiet here, so a brief bit of news ...

A local news story (http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/viewarticle.aspx?
id=360861) reports that one of AG's Sheepfold sculptures in Cumbria,
UK, has never been finished, apparently because underground pipes were
found.

A subsequent letter
(http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/opinion/viewarticle.aspx?id=362736)
criticises AG by saying that "pressure of work" is no excuse for not
completing the Sheepfold project. Given that AG is much in demand and
booked more than a year ahead for his projects, I wonder what the real
reason is why it was never built - pipes, pressure of work, or
otherwise.

Has anyone been to visit any of the Sheepfold sites? I have the book
and am thinking of going to some when holidaying in the area later this
year.

The BBC reports today about the damage to Goldsworthy's wall at
Grizedale, one of his oldest permanent sculptures, and about the
decision on whether or not to repair it or to leave it partially
ruined:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/cumbria/4893576.stm

I think they've definitely made the right decision, personally. I may
get a chance to see it for myself (not for the first time) as I'll be
holidaying near Grizedale at the end of the summer.

Hey all,

AG is giving a public lecture as part of a conference "Art in the
Land" running from 31 March to 2nd April at the Crichton Campus of the
Glasgow School of Art, UK. Although attendance at the conference does
cost £100, it offers a very rare chance for a guided visit to AG's
works in his home town of Penpont, and a short visit to his studio.

Hi all,

Brief mention of AG in an Australian newspaper:

http://www.smh.com.au/news/stay-in-touch/those-bills/2006/02/21/1140284071557.ht\
ml?page=fullpage

See about 2/3 of the way down the page ... it discusses a proposed AG
work in Sydney which fell through due to lack of funds, as well as
mentions AG photos currently on display in a Redfern, Sydney gallery
(see http://www.boutwelldraper.com.au/index.html for details, runs
until 11 March).

Gives an interesting idea of the amount of money required to buy an AG
photo or to install one of his major sculptures!

Cheers,

Brian

A couple more items:

1. Goldsworthy talk at Yale Center for British Art on 16 February,
5.30pm, details from YCBA website or again on this group's calendar.

2. There will be a forthcoming book by Molly Donovan (author
of "Christo and Jeanne-Claude in the Vogel Collection") documenting
Goldsworthy's slate dome installation, "Roof", at the Washington
National Gallery of Art. I don't have a release date or know the
publisher for this yet.

I seem to have bizarrely missed the chance to go to a Goldsworthy talk
a week ago only about 15 minutes from my home, but never mind, there
will be a free exhibition of his work from Sat 18 to Sun 26 February at

I've added details to the Yahoo groups calendar ()

Does anyone know if there is a "Zone 2 " version available, or will I

The easiest from Yorkshire are probably the various Sheepfolds in
Cumbria. Hopefully this link will take you to various relevant
websites:

http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/andygoldsworthy/links/Works___England_001104927\
247/Sheepfolds_001104926730/

I haven't been to Grizedale Forest for a while (also in Cumbria),
which isn't much of an additional trip if you've already made it to
the Sheepfolds. So I don't know what condition the three big works
there are in, but they were certainly well worth visiting when I last
went (oh, about ten years ago). I'll be back there next summer and
will no doubt have a look.

There are surviving works in Durham and at Gateshead, although I don't
think I'd make a special trip to see either.

Various other existing works can be found from
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/andygoldsworthy/links, follow the
sections for Works-England, and Works-Scotland, if you want to find
those closest to you. There are several pieces at the Royal Museum in
Edinburgh, all of which are worth seeing albeit a bit 'decorative'
(three of them are basically displayed as backdrops for the museum
exhibits), and seeing these can be easily combined with a visit to the
two sculptures at the Royal Botanic Garden, also in Edinburgh. The
Royal Museum is well worth visiting in its own right, it has an
excellent collection and is an interesting building as well (most
recently seen on TV a week or two ago hosting the 2005 Stirling Prize
for architecture).

Dumfries and Galloway is also worth considering although you'll need a
bit more effort: the first of four striding arches is complete at
Cairnhead, there's a cone at Penpont, a slate wall slowly decaying
next to Scaur Water (and probably a few others there too), a cone at
Dumfries arts centre, and Touchstone North on a farm north of Penpont.
Some of these are easy to find, others will need a good OS map and a
bit of time poring over the readily available Goldsworthy books. There
are other things worth looking for in the vicinity e.g. some Henry
Moore sculptures half way up a hillside in the middle of nowhere ...

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I haven't seen any of these three for sale recently. Some of the
out-of-print material comes up via eBay, and abebooks.co.uk
occasionally. My experience is that books on abebooks.co.uk are
usually accurately valued, but it's certainly possible to get real
bargains on eBay. Touching North and Sheepfolds are also getting long
in the tooth but some booksellers still stock them.

Good luck in tracking those three down!

Thanks for this quick reply.

I suppose I'd count myself as quite a fan of AG.
I'd like to try and get hold of some of the less common books , but
it
is hard to know what sort of price to pay. There quite a few
available
via ABE etc ( but not the titles Elizabeth has been looking for )

Separate from that I'd be keen to track down any limited edition
prints.

I will buy the DVD for Xmas....but will have to buy a DVD first !

Finally, it is difficult to keep track of what AG is up to, if there
is a cataogue being produced etc., plus where he is headed next. He
certainly seems to spend a lot of time in the USA.Any thoughts ?

Thanks for setting the group up.

Cheers
