Ian,
There will be a second phase of development in the park which proposes to
open up the steps and also create a further entrance which will have
disabled access. As you are aware, we do need to secure funds before the
work can be carried out.
Unfortunately securing funds can take some time and this is why the work
has been phased. The initial money could therefore concentrate on getting
as much of the path network in as possible, creating one main entrance
etc.
I will however make the park wardens and the Irk Valley Project Officer
aware of your suggestions to clear the nettles etc, near the Irk Place
steps.
I'm sorry that at the moment you are unable to enjoy the park fully due to
lack of entrances and I hope that work on Phase 2 will be able to get
moving as soon as possible.

Subject: [angelmeadow] St Michael's Flags and Angel Meadow
Dear All
I walk through Angel Meadow just about every morning on my from a
Redbank carpark to the city centre and am very pleased to see the
improvements made over the last year especially now that the turfing
and seeding is starting to show results.
For someone approaching from the Redbank/Aspin Lane direction,
however, it is now very difficult to get into the park as one set of
steps has been walled up and the Angel steps are still barricaded.
The St Michael's Place entrance in the very bottom corner is totally
impassable because of fencing and industrial waste - which leaves
only the Lowry steps from Irk Place.
The Irk Place steps are overgrown and have not benefitted from the
upgrading of the rest of the park, indeed they are not even
connected to the nice new footpaths which have been created.
Even though the steps are in the middle of the Lowry painting, the
information board reference to Lowry (which shows the picture)
locates it
by the Angel steps and not by its real location.
I inferred from some earlier information that a further development
in the
Irk Street/Irk Place corner my release funds for the rebuilding of
the St
Michael's Place corner but so far there is no sign of this
development so
it could easily be several years before there is a "decent" entrance
for
those of us who do not live on the top side of the park.
With this in mind perhaps a little bit of attention could be given
to the Lowry steps next time any work is scheduled - please could
they be cleared of nettles and buddelia and connected to the path
network.
Please also accept my thanks to all those who have helped with the
transformation up to now.
regards
Ian
