Hello,

**** Further work in the Angel Meadow ****

You may have noticed recently further work happening in Angel
Meadow. Groundwork has recently secured an ILM grant of £14 K,
which is being spent on training unemployed young people to give
them useful working skills.

This work will include securing the wall alongside Gould Street
(formerly St Michael's School) and spreading "mulch" (currently the
mounds of earth located in the park) on top of the flowerbeds - this
will prevent weeds sprouting.

The central dividing wall, which splits St Michael's Flags and Angel
Meadow will not be lowered - on the advice of the engineer.

**** Phase 2 Developments ****

This phase will tackle the retaining wall on Aspin Lane, the unsafe
steps (Lowry and Irk), the opening up of the entrance way under the
railway bridge. Currently Groundwork has contracted an engineer to
assess and survey the work, before any design, cost estimates etc
are drawn up.

Funding is planned in the region of £200 - 300 K of which may be
made up of MCC Section 106 and additional grants (potential some of
which FOAM may apply for).

FOAM and the local community will be consulted throughout Phase 2 to
ensure the best designs are incorporated within park.

**** History Booklet and CD ****

A workshop was held today (22/09/05) at the Ragged School reviewing
the first draft of the booklet and interactive CD. The design is of
a very high standard and further to today, Laura Jagota
<Laura.Jagota@...> will be conducting some sound-
recordings of local people for inclusion on the CD.

If anyone has any further information to be included please email
Laura ASAP. The end product will hopefully be produced by the
05/10/05.

A copy of the booklet can be found on this web-site under
folder "Files / StMicks_booklet_v2.pdf"

I have a copy of the interactive CD so just ask if you want to see
it.

**** Guided History Walk of Angel Meadow ****

This is planned for the Sunday 09th October 2005, starting at 11am.

For information please see the poster on this web site under folders
Files / Forthcoming Events / Guided Walk 091005.pdf .

Please encourage as many people as possible to come along to this
informative walk.

**** BTCV Open Day ****

On the 19/11/05 a group of us (Mike, Helen & Adrian) will be going
down to London for an Award Winners event organised by BTCV (Grant
of £8921 awarded to FOAM in 2004 for planting the lawn and
flowerbeds).

The event will give the group a chance to learn about fund-raising,
project management and network with other groups and looks set to be
a fun day out!

To see pictures of our group, which will be displayed at the BTCV
event; navigate to http://www.tobacco2.plus.com/

**** Other info....... ****

GreenSpace Org is currently looking for 12 parks, local authorities
and community groups around the UK to work with next summer to help
organise community-led events in parks.
If you have any bright ideas of what cool events could be hosted in
our park next Summer '06 then post your idea on this website......

Regards,
Mike Wingfield
Chairman of Friends of Angel Meadow (FOAM)
