Hello,
Thank you to everyone who came along for today's (09-OCT-05) history
walk around Angel Meadow and Ancoats. 37 people turned up to hear
Ailsa Walters talk enthusiastically about bygone days and the
intriguing history of the area, whilst the sun shined on.
From the CIS tower on Miller Street we headed next along Dantzic
Street into Angel Meadow park to see the fantastic regeneration.
Then pausing outside the Pot of Beer on Style Street before crossing
Rochdale Road and onto Oldham Road to learn about Victoria Square
housing estate, George Leigh Street and Anita Street (formerly
Sanitary Street).
The walk ended back at The Marble Arch, where we were treated with
delicious chip butties and had a refreshing ale (or two).
Specially thanks to Ailsa for bringing history to life and to The
Marble Arch for being such a good sponsor. £74.50 was raised for
the Friends group that will help continue its good work in Angel
Meadow Park.
On this website are some photos of the walk. See / Photo Album /
