Fantastic news – On Sunday 4th June between 10.30 am and 4.30 pm,
the BBC and Manchester City Council are holding a `Festival of
Nature' with our park; St Michael's Flags and Angel Meadow – the
centre of attention.
Planned for the day are a number of stalls, marquees and fun
activities including:
· Friends of Angel Meadow marquee (that's us) will be located
next to the main arched entranceway (Ideas are needed – see below)
· BBC tent where interviews and filming will take place –
hosted by Bill Oddie.
· Manchester Leisure will displays information boards on the
transformation of the park, history etc
· A butterfly garden, with a paved spine and wing shaped
flower beds full of wildflowers will be created next to the dividing
wall (just down from the FOAM tree).
· Activities on the day will include bird box decorating,
willow crafts, street entertainment, wild flower talks and guided
walks detailing the history of the area.
· BTCV will erect a green gym to promote exercise
· Manchester Sure Start marquee will house a play area for
young children.
· Birds of prey demonstration.
Although the main activities will be focussed around our park, other
events are also being planned around the city including the BBC Bus
in Exchange Square, an animal workshop in the Printworks along
characters of CBBC's Balamory and theatre performances in Cathedral
gardens (outside Urbis).
This really is wonderful showcase for Angel Meadow and we need your
ideas about what activities we could do from our marquee, how we can
get involved. To help prepare the park for summer and this Festival,
we are looking at Saturday 13th May for a "Spring Clean Up Day" –
more details will be posted shortly.
So get your thinking caps on – and post your ideas here or email me
at msrwingfield@...
Cheers,
Mike
