Hi Mike,
Sorry to be obtuse, but where is the Irk Valley?
I've never even heard of it!
Also I'm presuming Moston Brook is in Moston, but again, where exactly?
Thanks
Maggie

Subject: [angelmeadow] Heritage Steering group - Volunteers needed
Hello,
Groundwork MST and Catherine Hartley are putting in a bid to the
Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to fund a heritage project about the Irk
Valley including the Moston Brook. We have put in an expression of
interest to the HLF and have had a meeting with them to discuss how
we should progress to the full application form stage.
So far the proposal is to have representatives from community groups
across North Manchester driving and managing the project with the
support of Groundwork. These representatives would therefore come
together to discuss how we should run the project, to carry out
research and take part in any workshops in how to record memories,
or research local history etc. At the moment we are calling this the
Irk Valley Heritage Steering group. The representatives themselves
would then carry out research and encourage the community in their
area to be involved in researching their area or attending heritage
events.
The end result would then be to bring all the information from the
different areas together and produce a resource about the history of
the area, ideas so far are a guided walk down Irk Valley and Moston
Brook (perhaps something that can be downloaded onto a mobile/mp3
player so you can listen as you walk), or training local residents
to be guides, producing a website/leaflets etc. But what the end
result actually is will depend on the Heritage Steering group.
In 2006 a number of us (from Friends of Angel Meadow) were involved
in History workshops which resulted in the Information Boards now
located in the park and the creation of the history Book and CDROM.
Is anyone interested in getting involved in this Heritage project?
We are keen to find some volunteers and a representative for the
group, Friends of Angel Meadow who will contribute to the Heritage
Steering group?
If you'd like to get involved - please drop me a message - Mike

contact Laura Jagota, from

We are hoping to get a meeting organised for the end of April so
please let me know if you're interested soon.
Cheers,
Mike Wingfield
