Re: [annies exoctic zone] Mountain dragon won't eat

Try moving the UV bulb right onto the floor or even
better find his favourite spot and put it there. Block
of as many sides of his viv as possible, including the
front so he can have some privacy. Get a little bowl
of food for crickets and pile a load of crickets in
there. This way he has the opportunity to feed in
privacy if he wishes without them feeding on him!!
Hope this helps a bit
Dan

Hi

I recently received a very "dilapidated" mountain
dragon as a rescue.

The most imminent problem is that he doesn't want to
eat or drink.

I've done the really obvious, offering him crickets,
mealworms, wax
worms and putting a dish and misting fresh water in
his cage.
(According to the previous owners he ate crickets.)

I've tried stuffing a wax worm in his mouth. He either
spits it out
or just sits there with it sticking out of the side of
his mouth.

I've tried feeding him a commercial powder/water mix
for carnivorous
lizards with twice as much liquid so that it's gruel,
he spits it
out.

I have been soaking him in a shallow container of
tepid water every
day for 15 to 20 minutes at a time, several times a
day. I never see
him drink.

I've forced the issue and given him water and an
electrolyte
solution orally with a feeding syringe. Though only in
very small
amounts. Sometimes he will swallow it; sometimes he
will spit it out.

If anyone has any suggestions that might get this
little guy back on
food I would appreciate hearing from you. I may not be
able to save
him but I want to at least give it a good try.

(PS, I have experience keeping reptiles including
small Agamidae, so
I have a good idea of the requirements for general
maintenance.
I have considered taking him to a vet. Unfortunately
the selection
of local herp vets is limited, and of those most have
only dealt
with leopard geckos, chameleons and snakes.)
