To whom it may concern, I have been following this debate with a passing interest. I find it very amusing the way the administrater has no idea what he is talking about. I thought I would remind you of the simplicity of philosophy. Philosophy comes from two Greek words, as I am sure my learned friend knows, 'philos' meaning love and 'sophos' meaning wisdom. And so 'philosophy' is simply the love of wisdom. Now the school started during the great depression. Leon Maclaren and a few of his friends used to meet to learn about economics, the study of the relationship between men. Now they soon realised that they could not fully understand this without asking themselves what man is? This small gathering has now 75 years later grown into a worldwide school (completely volunterally - no-one has invaded any countries and forced religion on them!!!). The idea is still the same. It is the love of wisdom that drives a human, whether it be to understand the financial market or to understand the great cosmos that lies in front of us - or as the school teaches the enormous question of 'What am I?' You are obviously aware of something greater because you keep fighting to discover it - you are searching for the Truth. This is what people in the school do. Who are we to judge how someone goes about searching for the answer. If you were really a member of the school, or if you knew half as many people who were in the school as I do, then you will KNOW that the school is a completely voluntery organisation. No-one is forced into doing anything. How can you force someone to do something???? You complain about all these ideas and concepts of the school, but how are they any different than the conformities that society places upon you. Why do you sit there complaining about your personal problems when you could take real advantage of this forum, this wealth of intelligence, and search for the answers to very practical questions, as Plato did. As you rightly described in one of your e-mails, dialectic, is a very valuble tool to discovering the answer. best wishes.
