Re: [anti_ses] Hi

Hi. I did suffer a nervous breakdown and I have been subsequently diagnosed with
depersonalisation disorder, which I believe was partly caused by the meditative
exercises many of you may be familiar with. This is not foolish, I have suffered
from this disorder for 18 months and it is absolute hell. Depersonalisation is a
scientifically recognised condition llinked to TM meditation.I believe you, as
moderator of the group, provided this link which provides evidence in support of
my previous email. I, for one was relieved to find this site as it shows I am
not alone in suffering negative mnental conditions from exposure to SES
practices

If you click on the section entitled 'coping with trance states', hopefully you
will find evidence to support my claims. I am not here to cause trouble, only to
state my personal experiences with the meditative exercise provided by SES.
Please try not to troll; I thought this group was for those negatively effected
by the SES.

Thank you for your time.

**********Moderator's Note**********
The moderator(s) had already followed the link supplied, but do not wholly agree
with the strength of the scientific evidence. The article is very brief in its
explanation of the effects of TM. It seeks to state effects which have
apparently been observed, but does not go deeper into how exactly TM causes
"negative mental conditions" - on the contrary, I know many who regularly
practice TM who have developed positive mental conditions. It seems that a
problem with the practice is automatically assumed, and then much more time is
spend detailing how to correct the "problem".

I think it would be difficult for us to agree on the scientific basis for
criticism of TM, largely because (at the moment) the way in which the brain
works is not well understood, so no amount of scientific evidence would be
conclusive. The fact that TM can have (apparently) such diverse consequences on
different people is also confusing when trying to prove a condition such as
"depersonalisation syndrome".

Regarding you thinking "this group was for those negatively effected by the SES"
- well, it is really meant to encourage discussion on the SES between both those
that are members and those that are not, and also those that have been
negatively effected by the SES. The name of this board does indicate bias but,
truth be told, this is so that non-SES visitors are encouraged to contribute,
since many of the members are associated in some way with the SES (it is
surprising, therefore, that there are so few members of the SES willing to put
forward their views).
