The role of moderators on discussion forums is generally to root out
and edit unsuitable or offensive postings or parts therein NOT to
reply to each message individually with their own views. Moderators
are also expected to ajudicate impartially. Perhaps it would be more
suitable to discuss or argue with posts via the group itself (after
all that is its purpose) and avoid lengthy amendments to peoples
postings. That way any personal contentions can be kept to the forum
itself and generally makes discussions fairer and easier. Just a
suggestion.
**********"Moderator's Note"**********
Thanks for the advice. After some disruptive posts, I have had to make
the time-consuming effort of reading each and every message and
approving those that are fit for this board. Naturally, after reading
each message, I have opinions that I wish to air and feel it is
appropriate to do so because this is such an inactive forum. If the
group was more active (i.e. if there were actually any discussions!),
I would definitely consider making separate, targetted (and more
argumentative) posts but until then it saves time and, I think, makes
much more sense to the reader if messages were accompanied by related
(and perhaps biased according to the moderators' opinions) comments.
Maybe I'll change the "Moderator's Note" title to "Views of Board
Owner(s)".
