Had another thought:
It's intersting that many of those people on the forum who are
critizising the SES, or even slightly doubting it or questioning it,
(myself included), are those who wish to remain anonymous. The others
are keen to make themselves known.
I think this is in a way unfortunate, we seem to be hiding away,
possibly putting the other people at a disadvantage? But perhaps it
is important to look closer at the reasons we would feel
uncomfortable to be known...
Just a question to those in SES- Would you feel comfortable showing
the things you have said to those in SES authority. Mostly, I feel
the answer would be yes, based on what has been said. But if you had
a strong critisism of one of the really important fundemental aspects
of the SES or indeed of one of the senior memebers, would you feel
free to say it here? Would you indeed feel comfortable to say it to
your Tutor, or indeed to Mr. Lambi?
If your reaction has been yes, then ask yourself why the girls still
wear long skirts. Many of you have said you think it an odd custom,
but have not managed to convince your tutor or Mr. Lambi of the
rationality of your veiws- you are still wearing them. If you have no
say over this simple surface aspect of your physical dress how will
you be able to confront them with more important issues and expect to
have any impact?
(I'm sure there are other examples which are more general, but this
is the one that came to mind...and is also the one that has been more
mentioned before.)
So all you can really become is a 'rebel', should you voice more
controversial veiws against the establishment- the SES are extreemly
loath to change their veiws on anything (even skirts!). Or simply
you 'do not understand', and should 'put yourself under the
discipline' until the understanding comes from it.
I think mostly people are in or out of the SES, so once larger
criticisms start and cannot be resolved, 'getting out' is usually the
answer.(This is all a bit harsh I know, but not I believe ungrounded.
Do correct me if I'm wrong. I would be quite interested to know of
any influence that anyone has managed to exert over the SES- sixth
form now being alowed to wear knee-length skirts I know about
already, and I assume that is the same for the Youth Group.)
I personally feel that by remaining anonymous I am completely free to
express my veiws and oppinions. I bring with me no shadows of a
personality or past, which I feel helps my veiws be taken more
seriously. I can say things I suppose I would never choose (or dare)
to speak of otherwise. The process of message-posting also allows
more thought to go into what I say, which I find both helpful and
important. (sorry for the length of the posts- will try to keep them
shorter!)
Feedback would be much appreciated.
Thankyou
