i have just past my bike test and bought a 2002 rs 250 only one
problem the brake light does not come on when you touch the rear
brake can anybody help
Firstly I would like to thank all those who helped with the on-line
questionnaire over the last few weeks, I am currently analysing the
data and comparing it to other datasets, I will publish the results
on the website once I have finished.
I am now in need of some feedback with regards to risk and
enjoyment. The link below will take you to a page of 6 pictures,
which can be rated in terms of risk and enjoyment. I would be
grateful if you could spare a few minutes to fill in this
questionnaire – these results are being used to try an advance biking
safety.

Thanks for your help

Hi to all,
I am a biking mature student doing research into bike safety for my
PhD. That is I get to ride around asking questions and get a small
sum of money to do all this.
I am looking to get some background data to help with this research,
please can you spare 5 minutes to fill in an online questionnaire, it
can be found at
http://www.8to80.co.uk/Biking/Q1
Thanks for the help
Paul
Hi People
You've got to check this site out
www.trickbitsdirect.co.uk
I could not believe the prices.
Got my self a paddock stand for £25.
Delivery says three days but I got it next day.
Tons of cool stuff here
Go down 10 main jet points on each carb (you will find they are not
the same for each carb). Yes, I know this sounds odd (leaning it off)
but it is the way to go.

I just fitted mine a couple weeks ago. I was asking about jetting on
this forum...no replies. This forum is dead. Anyway...
I am very happy with them. They are not dramatically louder...just
sound deeper and better. The performance was noticably increased
with no jetting mods. Just bolt on fun. More of everything...low,
mid and top ends all benefitted. Now she likes to lighten the front
end in first and second with the slightest tug.
Only downside is they seem to rust always.... I bought mine used, so
can't say much about the price. Sometimes you see them used on ebay.
Have fun

Have you checked all the connections around the coil, give the connectors a
clean. Possibly also check the plug cap resitance.
High rev breakdown could be as simple as the vibration causing a poor
connection to fsck up, but it's more likely a serviceable part like plugs,
plug caps, HT leads connections needing replacing.
I assume the bike performs fine everywhere else? Check that main jets are
still flowing enough fuel by stripping and cleaning the carbs.

I have a '95 reggi that has the same or similar problem. I have left it
standing for about a year til about a month ago, now after putting it
back on the road I have a major missfire or stutter at high revs. I
have changed petrol, fitted new plugs, cleaned air filter and finally
stripped and cleaned carbs - I did find a load of sediment in the carbs
around the main jets and in float bowls. Still the bike is no better,
I'm starting to wonder if there is a problem with coils/pickups/ecu
whatever it is it could start getting expensive.

My 95 RS seems to stutter at high rpm 11000 - 12000. Have checked
the normal things like plugs, air filter & power valve alignment
which seem OK. Has anyone had any similar problems? If so any advice
gratefully received.

Thanks Sol, but I have a copy of Ride mag ( look it up, maybe you get
the rough idea ) which had an almost see-through pic of both 97 and
post 98 bikes, it seems like the mountings are all the same on the
chassis, except for the lower front end ( near the front
sprocket/footrest, where there was a some sort of bracket holding it
to the chassis )
The fuel tank also seemed to hae the same mounting points, and since
post 98 bikes do not have a longer or wider chassis than 97 bikes, i
presume they'll go on easily.
About the clocks, don't the old original bracket would still fit the
newer bodyworks, since the post-98 bodyworks are much wider and
larger than 97 RS250?
So in order to have post 98 Showa forks I have to change the whole
front end, right down to the wheels both yolks, bearings and spindle?
Or is there any way for me to tune the current forks on my 97 RS250
to perfection? I am about 65kg dry, not including racing suit,
helmets and boots. What about the rear end?
38mm flatslides is a sound idea...any one have done it?

Probably .. With some bracketry made up.
> Can I still keep the older clocks if I fit the newer bodyworks?
I would have thought so ... Again may require brackets.
> Is it possible to fit the Showa forks ( without changing wheel and

You need the yolks top and bottom and also need appropriate head bearings.
Your wheels will not fit the later forks as the later wheels and forks use a
larger diameter spindle. You could have a spindle and spacers made up of
course.

Probably - *if* the tuneon your motor needs more fuel. You may improve
thropttle response.

Hello all..some questions :
Can I fit post '98 bodywork to '97 model ( want to fit front
bodywork, upper and lower, also fuel tank )
Can I still keep the older clocks if I fit the newer bodyworks?
Is it possible to fit the Showa forks ( without changing wheel and
brakes from the '98 model to my '97 model RS? )
What about the upper bodywork support?
Is it a good idea to fit 38mm flatslides? I want more BHP to spook
bigger CCs bike here at Sepang!
Thanks!
-Keep an eye on ebay mate, they have had a few race prep rs250s of
late.
cheers bb

It lives, is loud, and is livid! Hey I should coin that phrase ... Details
as always on my website in the diary section.
http://www.spirant.demon.co.uk
I'm booked into a number of trackdays, and have been enjoying using the bike
on the road in this recnt fine weather - though in fairness she's not the
most practical bike for the road! Anyhow ... With any look I may actually
get a dry trackday in the next few I've booked.
Always willing to chat if anyone turns up and says hello ... I'll be at an
Ixion Trackday organised for the 15th and 16th July - Cadwell full circuit.
Then a Focused Events trackday organised for the 21st July - Oulton Park,
followed by a Speedfreaks trackday organised 5th September - Cadwell full
circuit.

It seems you've already answered your own question. If the coils are
rusty then you wouldn't get a full spark which would affect the firing.
You could check by changing the coils over and see if the problem goes
to the other cylinder.
Andy.

Did you try the simple things like plugs?

Hi there,
I was thinking of putting rg 500 engine into an rs 250 frame
also. At the moment I am studying but with a bit of luck my exams
will be over in 6 months or a year max,Please keep me informed with
any progress that you make with the project.
good luck, Bri
