Hello everyone,

I am in the United States and recently bought a 1996 RS250 with 16,000
kilometers showing on the clock.

This bike is a German-spec street bike that was brought to the US by
returning a serviceman.

Some cobwebs in the triple trees tell me it hasn't run for a while, but it
has been winter here for what feels like a year.

The serviceman seemed to know very little about the bike; for instance he
did not know it had a Suzuki engine, and he thought it was FUEL injected
(but in his defense maybe he misspoke and meant to say oil injected.)

The bike starts and runs very well.

If anyone wants to toss out any advice to an RS250 novice regarding
maintenance issues or otherwise please do so.

prices.  He did 300cc conversion on my 97 chesterfield RS two years back and so
far its been bullet proof.

Having bought an aprilia af1 125 off ebay many years ago and never got
around to do anything with it my son has grown up and has decided to
see if he can get it to work.
I was told it was imported from Spain and it was an 1987 model.
The only possible models it looks like from the limited information I
can find is it could be either the AF1 125 Replica or the Sinesti.
It has RAVE on the side of the Head and a power valve.
From what I can make out its a Rotax engine.
It has the Rectangular head light.
Any clues as where to find information ie wiring etc would be much
appreciated.

hey everone im new here and have just obtained an aprilia af1 50
futura and this seemed the best forum to start at. does anybody live

The RS 250's cooling system is prone to air locks.  There should be a bleed
screw on the water pump, and a small plug on the top right hand side of the
radiator.  Filling the system via the overflow wont achieve anything because the
fluid wont pass the thermostat.

Undo the plug on the rad and fill the rad.  Run the engine with the bleed screw
on the water pump cracked open to prime the pump.  Once fluid comes out shut the
screw.  Run the engine up to temp (thermostat opens at around 60).  Should be
OK, but I have hade touse the repeat the exercise once ortwice to get all the
air out.  Good luck

I am in the process of replacing the coolant in my rs250, that I
bought last weekend, with Water Wetter. The owners manual states that
the dealer should do this. I thought that it can't be too difficult.
So I disconnected the hose on the right hand side at the bottom of the
radiator and let the coolant drian out. I re-attached the hose and
began filling the radiator through the over flow catch unit and it
quickly overflowed. I then removed the hose that I had initially
removed to drain the radiator and no coolant came out. The radiator is
empty. I now know that I am clueless here. I did a search on this
forum and only found info on changing a Falco's coolant. I would be
very grateful if someone would please tell me how to properly drain
and replace the coolant. Thanks, Ken

If it's 98/99 it my have been raced at some point - check the usual
signs of racing (drilled sump plug etc) - though to be honest a well
looked after race bike can be better than a poorely maintained
private bike in many instances.

Usual cavaets apply to looked after - good quality oil, any rebuilds,
maintenance performed, any tuning work etc etc

Reliability is pretty good as long as they are not over-revved (very
difficult not to over-rev these bikes) - so the type of rider is
important.

Tht said .. buy one .. trash it until it goes pop and rebuild it ...
you'll enjoy it ... while it's not really a motorway tool, it is
hugely rewarding on back roads

ON the track it's a little lack lustre, but makes up for the lack of
top end with it's ability to brake late and carry lots of corner
speed.

iam interested in buying an Aprilia RS 250 98 or 99. what are they
like motorway journeys reliability, anything in particular u should
look out for noises, etc

i have a 96' RS250 chesterfield up for sale, its a very reluctant
sale as the bikes my pride n joy, its in absolute fantastic
conditions and has been maintained religously since i bought the
machine 3 years ago, the bike has very low mileage, just 6400 since
new, the motor is fantastic, the body work is spotless, its had
recent forkseals and full service, the bikes immaculate and awesome
fun as u guys already know, there a fantastic machine n if i had a
choice i wouldnt sell it but im afraid its out of my hands n its
gotta go, i have many pics of the machine feel free to email me for
any further details, pics, price etc im located in barnsley south
yorkshire, the bike is advertised elsewhere but id sooner it goes to
someone i know is gonna treasure it n treat it right lol

Which one is in better condition? What are the mileages?
How much are you looking for?
Where are you based? Might be able to come and look this Friday or Saturday if

hi. aprilia RS250 Club, after some help with seat height of rs 250. does any
body know weather it is possible to lower the seat height, my wife has a
2001 model, we have already shaved the seat foam but like another 1' if
possible.also does any one know whether the RS 125cc has a lower seat

removed and a PIPERX filter put in its place, are the correct plugs
in place, are they getting too hot, is the timing correct, has the
powervalve system been adjusted...this may need adjusting..just a
few things to have a look at...why do you want a 99 rs...go for a

Mate, i had the same problem with my 97 Aprilia, i put some FST into
the petrol, this cleaned out all the crap on the injection system
and made it run alot better, unfortunately it was putting back the
innevitable..a short time later the cyclinder that you describe
nipped a ring and scored the Barrel. It cost me £700 to put it
right. I got both cyclinder re sleeved and new pitons, rings etc..if
you take off the heads and look at the cyclinders..NOW..it may save
you some serious cash later....daz--- In

iam interested in buying my mates aprillia 250 s reg 1999, but when
you ride it it misfires a little and splutters alot a power band
kicks in but completley cuts out at about 10,11 revs. it will
splutter in all gears quiet badly to about 7 revs changed plugs and
leads. any ideas thanks marc.

I'm breaking my 95 RS250 and have the following parts for sale

Complete engine in good condition. I've had bike 3 years and used it
on road only. Speedo said 4500 miles but slightly higher as had
marvic wheels without speedo drive when I bought it. Did a top end
rebuild last summer to fix slight water leak. New rings, piston pins,
small end bearings and gaskets. All genuine, receipt for £150 parts.
Power valves could have done with a decent clean at that time but I
didn't have time. Nothing serious though. Done less than 1000 miles
since.I also have a complete engine minus cylinders pistons and
heads. Complete engine £275, bottom end £100. Due to hassle of
crating/shipping it's buyer collects, Fife nr Edinburgh, or I am
willing to meet buyer halfway up to 100 miles.

Frame. Has some superficial marking to RHS. Photos available. RHS
lower footrest plate mounting point is damaged but still takes bulk
of weight from bolt, upper mount perfect. V5 available, with
numberplate and taxed til Dec! Used on road only last 3 years and
fully functional. £150

Other parts available include rear subframe, oil and water tanks and
lots of miscellaneous small parts
