ARE PROUD TO PRESENT
A weekend of classes with the legendary
FARIDA FAHMY
Co-founder and principal dancer
of the world famous Reda Troupe
Farida Fahmy, co-founder and principle dancer with the Reda Troupe
for 25 years, has played a major role in elevating dance into a fine
art in Egypt. Her unique style of dance, social status, grace and
dedication has inspired generations of dancers. As well as
performances with the Reda Troupe, Farida Fahmy has entertained
audiences in over 50 countries, participating in many international
Folk Festivals, and given command performances for both Egyptian and
international Heads of State. On screen she has played the lead role
in two major musical films starring the Reda Troupe. These roles are
regarded as milestones in Egyptian Cinema. She was decorated by
President Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1967 with the Order of Arts and
Science of the first degree, by King Hossein of Jordan with the Star
of Jordan in 1965 and by President Bourguiba of Tunisia in 1973.
She received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Cairo
University in 1967 and her Master of Arts in Dance Ethnology from the
University of California. Farida is a accomplished choreographer in
both Oriental and Folkloric styles, presenting numerous workshops in
the United States, Europe and Egypt.

Sunday 19th June 2005 4pm- 5.30pm – in conversation with…
A rare opportunity to spend some time with Farida and ask her
questions. She will discuss her experiences of dance from an early
age including the start of the world famous Reda Troupe. This is an
informal discussion. We very much hope to broaden the audience for
this event to the public at large, so numbers will be limited.
