1:30-2:30 - Shimmy's, Flutters, and Layering... OH MY
Guest instructor- Lauren of "Mind, Belly and Soul"
This class will take your basic shimmy's and flutters to a whole new level. You
will take home some great new layering techniques. Incorporating isolations,
locks and FUN. Add these movements to your next performance.
************
2:40- 3:40 – Tick-Tock-Belly-Pop
Belly Dance Fusion
Guest instructor- KayLouise of "Mesmeric Belly Dance Fusion" Toledo
Let your body move to the beat of a clock…Add the shock of electric volts,
combined with timing, isolation, discipline and alternate with the smooth snaky
movements of belly dance. Locking and Popping originated in Los Angeles and was
mastered in the streets of the Bronx in NY. Popping and Locking are different
styles of street dance. People sometimes comment on "the pop - locking" they see
in Mesmeric choreographies… but we only generally add elements of "popping" and
"waving." In this workshop we will learn some of the technique of popping,
ticking and waving through drills and funky combos.
************
3:50- 4:50- Egyptian Fantasy - 1941
Belly Dance - Burlesque Fusion
Guest instructor- KayLouise of "Mesmeric Belly Dance Fusion" Toledo
If you want to learn tasteful belly dance-burlesque-fusion, this is the workshop
for you! Burlesque did not originate with tassel twirling or taking clothes off.
In this class you will learn part of an original KayLouise choreography,
inspired by vintage 'boop-boop-be-do'… infused with belly dance technique and a
VaVaVooM attitude!
Like many other KL/Mesmeric choreographies, the over-all mood is that of a woman
selfishly dancing for HERSELF, not for the pleasure of others.
This KayLouise choreography will focus heavily on posture, attitude and
stylizing belly dance movements into a fun and flirty, slow and sexy,
vintage-burlesque inspired choreography.
************
5:00- 6:00 – "Arm yourself"- World fusion belly dance arm positions
Instructor- Elysia Hafsa of "Carnivale Mijnoon"
Feeling pretty secure with your hip movements and just don't know what to do
with your arms? Come take this class and learn beautiful, graceful and sensuous
arm movements influenced by many dance forms. Middle Eastern, Oriental, Ballet,
Flamenco, Rom, Persian, Rajasthani, etc. Empower your dancing by taking control
of your arms and hands.
************
6:10-7:10 –"Beginning Middle Eastern Drumming"
Instructor – Rune Palland of "Carnivale Mijnoon"
This class will review the basics of Middle Eastern drumming, including the
basic sounds and playing techniques, some beginning rhythms, and some warm-ups
and exercises. We will also go over some tips on getting the most out of
practice time. Although this class is targeted at beginning drummers the class
will be tailored for the skill levels of the drummers attending - drummers at
all levels are encouraged to attend.
************
7:30 – Performance followed by our Hafla
After the Performances are done, we will start our Hafla by having a short 15 –
20 minute drum jam for any of the drummers & dancers who are interested. Then we
will have open dance until about 10:00 pm. Musicians and drummers welcome, there
will be live music.
The Performance/Hafla is $5 (children under 12 are free) and it is pot luck so
bring your favorite dish for your friends to try - it does not have to be
"Arabic" food! If you don't have either the time or inclination to bring food
