Hello All

Hello to Nadiyah, how interesting to be able to speak to people from the other side of the globe so easily and exchange news and view on our dance.

I believe Beverley and Jewelah have also invited Guy Schalom into this group. Hopefully he will join soon and post messages here. I met up with Guy on Wednesday in North London where he has recently moved to from the Manchester area. He is a very talented Tabla player with a huge sense of fun who I believe will be a very valuable asset to our dance community in the South.

Best Wishes

Hello Fellow Dancers,

I have been lurking a bit and have enjoyed reading everyone's introduction.  My name is Nadiyah and I reside in Spokane, Washington, USA.  My dance focus has been mostly on Egyptian and Lebanese Cabaret Styling.  However, the more I research the history of Belly Dance, the more I learn how the many other countries and cultures involved in this beautiful art form.  I am honored to be a part of the dance community. .

Sincerely,
Nadiyah

Greetings to all!
I just wanted to comment that one of the wonderful
things about our dance is that it is global. Where
ever I travel and where ever I move to I can find
really cool dance people. There are dance
organizations all around the world. It is awesome!!!

My husband is also Military (Navy) and we move about
every three or so years. I love that no matter where
I go I can find people who love dance (Some nearly as
much as I do! *LOL*).

Dance is the one constant in my life and it keeps me
sane (well, more or less, depending on your
deffinition!). In my experience, Dance people are
usually good people. I have had some amazing
experiences travelling and meeting other dancers.
They have opened their homes and hearts to me and I
try to do likewise. It renews my faith in humanity
and lifts my spirit to know that there are so many
wonderful dance people out there.

Ciao for Now! -- Sa'ida

Hi

Our show and workshop kept us rolling all day
(with small snacks of tofu keeping us going..)

We had a fantastic workshop at Danceworks, thanks to all of you
participating. We knuckled in and worked through isolations and
flow... finishing with Nashwat El Raqs. Thanks to Jewela for making
us sweat! Jewela says she's inspired to see so many of you working
hard and bringing out your own uniqueness.

The day by no means stopped there. A performance later at Theatro
Technis was lovely, and thank you to the audience. We shared the
stage with an exquisite classical indian and later a contemporary
dancer. Photos from the Arabic Section are posted on the groups photo
pages under "Arabic Dance Association UK" and then "Show 14Nov".

Ciao Mi Bella Amici Di Danza!! (all you beautiful dance friends)

Yes, I was in Corfu, Greece for a little while... I actuallly *live*
in Naples, Italy (Napoli). There are some very talented dancers in
Rome. I hope to go back to Greece in the Spring, haven't made it to
Athens yet, but it's on my list!! So many places to see....

It's lovely that this list is so international! I enjoy very much
comparing notes with other dance communities.

Hey Zaina!! Congrats on your magazine! I'll have to check it out!
BTW: Any chance I can get a copy of that poster?? I had no idea, but
I'm glad people liked that costume (and my screamin' red hair dye!).
Hopefully I'll get some good new photos in the ruins around here....

There are some beautiful ruins and temples. I was recently visiting
the archeological site of Paestum, which was one of the original Greek
Settlements. As soon as all the paperwprk and legal stuff clears, I
can't wait to do a photo shoot out in town... MAybe even a video???
:-) It has been a life long dream of mine to dance in one of the
ancient temples of Venus... wish me luck! I promise to keep you all
posted if that happens.

Love & Dance, Peace & Freedom!! Sa'ida

Hi Beverly:

It's Nilly from Florida.  You invited me to join your group through bellydancemarket@...  I think you've got my address because you bought stuffs from me from Ebay.

I have a website (www.bellydancemarket.com) that tells you more about myself as a dancer.  I plan to make that website work as an online bazaar one day, but I don't know when I will have time.  I am a full time researh scientist, a dancer, a vendor and a martial arts student.  That pretty much take over almost all of my waking moments.

This December I will be visitng England (from December 22 to Jan 4).  I am not sure if I will have a chance to pass by and say hi (I don't even know if any studio will be open fr that matters).  I will spend most of the time in Wales (my byfriend's family).  But if there is anything interesting happening during that time, please let me know.

Hi!

I wanted to welcome all members and thank you for the warm,
enthusiastic and overwhelming response to our new hub!

This group is a way for us to share a love in common of dance, and to
further our own artistic expression through inspiration and
networking! So please feel free to bring forward ideas, recruit
through the membership base, and share positive, meaningful
communication. If you are performing, let us know where, so we can
come to support you.

It seems we have already set about reuniting old friends! Also, with
great offers of hospitality (thank you to the lass in Brazil)x

And thank you for those fabulous dancers who have already posted
their photographs online. An invitation to more of you...

I've uploaded some of my dance pics and jewela's. Jewela is an
exquisite dancer and gifted teacher. I love to
watch her perform, she is a generous spirit, and her yoga and
discipline are paramount in her dance. I have studied with her for
four years and help her teach these days.

I have trained since the age of 4 in dance and am qualified in jazz/
contemporary. Also having done some ballet, gymnastics and martial
arts, I can safely say the bellydancing is THE most difficult art to
learn, but one of the most joyous to (attempt) to master. I may dance
in a rhythm where all my styles fuse, or at play with the female
archetypes within the arabic structure. As a woman of contrasts, this
is good for self-expression, and drama-healing. You may find me
draped in diamonds, barefoot in the mud, in a glamorous, earthy
bellydance, or find me in a sassy black jazz hat.

I look forward to getting to know more of you.
Thank you so much to those who have introduced themselves.
May we all know great happiness!
Best wishes in your dance and all persuits.

Much love
Beverley

2005 Visionary Belly Dance Retreat
Dates: January 16-24, 2005
Place: the Big Island of Hawaii!
9 Days 8 nights
Theme: "Depth of the Dance"
We have had many retreats on Maui and a few on the Big Island. I find
the Big Island is less hectic than Maui these days. It has a wilder,
less cultivated feel. Each island is unique. I truly love them all.
The Big Island is perfect for taking us away and to the depth of our
dance!
YOU CAN SEE FULL DETAILS AT...

Our Guest Artist: Jeremiah Soto
I'm very excited to have invited Jeremiah to be this year's visionary
guest artist He is the composer, musician and creative mind behind
the "Solace" music collections. Jeremiah truly has had his finger on
the pulse of American belly dance for the past decade. His music is
enthralling. With tribal, ritual, urban, gypsy, he crossed cultural
lines and stylization. His music is big and deep.
Space is limited and we expect it to fill fast.

i bet and i look forward to seeing you there.
parties are great for performing with friends. theyre really
supportive when it comes to doing your own thing. when i perform in
theatre, tho, i am quite careful to listen to what is wanted and cut
it down to experience, also sometimes we tend to resist the learning
curve in a way that makes us want to perform in a way to make
ourselves happy and not challenge ourselves to further improve. so
its a difficult bone to chew, but i think in the end we all want to
better ourselves and never loose that individual spark that makes us
unique and that brings the world of flavour to our dancing
keen to see your outfits this sunday at the workshop

is good for self-expression, and drama-healing.

Much love
Beverley

Hi,

My name is Nicola and I dance/teach in Birmingham.  I also organise workshops in the local area if anyone is interested - see below.  Feel free to ring me (leave a message) if you would like to dance or teach in Birmingham (UK!)  0121 680 5329

Just had an email about the belly dancing super stars - they will be back in London end of May 2005 - show is supposed to be fantastic so I shall be going!

*Book both workshops before December 04 and save £10*

An exciting workshop by Heather Burby - "Melaya Dance" £28

This is a lovely cheeky flirtatious dance from the Alexandrian area of Egypt using a very large shawl type cloth to wrap around the body. You will need a long piece of soft cotton cloth or similar which is 2ft longer than your height and at least 45 inches wide. A normal veil is unsuitable.  Saturday 16th April 2005
price reflects the very limited places, only a few still available
Workshop not suitable for completely new students, probably best to have around a years dance exp at least. However if you have less exp you can come along, but there would not be time for steps you don’t yet know to be explained, but if you are happy "muddling" along and trying to pick things up by yourself, this is fine.

Egyptian Choreography by Jacqui Bryan £20

Learn a new choreography to Egyptian singer Najwa Karam’s beautiful song Oyoun Albi.  This 4.03 minute track is taken from the album: The Very Best of Najwa Karam.  The choreography incorporates many different moves resulting in a dance that is both demure and mischievous!  Comfortable dance wear, no veil needed.  As above, this is probably not suitable for completely new students as there will be no time to break moves down in detail (such as camels etc.).  However, if you fancy a challenge - everyone welcome!

    Saturday 29th January 2005

To book, send a cheque payable to Nicola Fairey and SAE to Nicola Fairey, Misys House, Buckholt Drive, Warndon, WR4 9SR.
£10 non-refundable deposit required for each workshop booking.

Thank-you for inviting me to join this group.

Have been a performer of Dance-Theatre since the seventies and enjoy
all forms of dance, especially multi-cultural.

The Costumes have always been the icing on the cake, so to speak.
I also paint and create original neckpieces that are inspired by
Dance and different Cultures. Will always be adding to my website
and would like to invite you to browse some of the Costumes featured.
There are many more, and will take special orders for your unique
style and shape. I am a distributor of JOHARAH'S line from Egypt,
and will be adding original Flamenco dresses taking custom orders for
those as well.

Blessings in Dance

hi I'm mary from north london and have had a break from the dance for 5 months and am getting back on track!Very inrterested in viewing natural dance from the east to inform my dance than just cpopy /explore teaching instruction.Prefer ethnic moves than commercial style arabic dance..but do my own performance thang..quite crazy.I believe there is a dance within everyone that is their own poetry in motion so am not seeking to perfect someone else's move completely.Do I give joy to my audience and interpret mood of the music. My main criteria.Still very wobbly on camels ugh and pulling myself through muscle isolation.Probably do a lot of moves wrong but I find every teacher is different and if it looks good and safe move hey why not.Love Natacha Atlas and Yum warra yum c.d and Muhammed sultan.Anyone know where I can get more of his music?I can design interesting tops if anyone wants as long as they have a good base bra they can use.Uase silks satins and wacco textiles for my outfits..lotsa chains hey it's such fun.Say hello to dancers and introduce yourselves to me!marytduggan@...

Hope you are well..Love mary

Saida,

IT IS YOU. Just went in and looked at the photos folder. Whew whoo.
So good to see you there. YOU ARE MISSED HERE IN WASHINGTON. People
ask where you are all the time.

And, by the way, your gorgeous photo - the red fire costume - graced
Reno, Nevada's Casino this year as well as last year. It is a poster
size and it is BREATHTAKING. Fun to stand around the poster and
listen to people oooo and ahhhhh.

Hugs to You!
Zaina

Oregon dropping in to say hi and thank you for inviting me to join

Hi there,

Just wanted to introduce myself - My name is Audra and I'm in Toronto,
Canada. I'm a new member of the group, and owner of Cleopatra's Bazaar,
an online bellydance supply boutique selling Oriental and Tribal dance
supplies.
How are things over there in England? Toronto is bustling at this time of year
with student galas and recitals abounding. I am not involved this year, as I've
just started my own classes (I was previously with Arabesque Academy and
Yasmina Ramzy) in the summer and still have a small student base.
I'm off to do some updates, hope to hear from some of you and you can fill me
in on your dance life!

Audra
