Robinson's Fruit Shoot have just featured one of the Ocelots on their web site and will put him in their TV commercial if enough people click the 'I like this' button. GB U17 Open's youngest player Harry Shaw was asked to show off various throws and catches and can be seen at http://www.fruitshoot.com/. Feel free to take a look and see what you think (and vote for him!)

Subject: [juniorultimate] GB Junior Open 2009/10 - First trial 28th March

All,

thank you for everyone that's got in touch with their initial expression of interest. So far, 40 people have applied personally and I'm sure many more will turn up in their truckload for the actual session.

Please find attached to this e-mail the final player application form for 2009. If you want to be considered for GB Junior Open this summer, the deadline for receipt of this application is Friday 20th March. The address for you to send it to is at the end of the application. If you are having trouble downloading the pack, the file will be available on the UK Ultimate site, or please e-mail me and I will forward it on to you.

The first trial for this year will be on the 28th March in Fog Lane Park, Manchester. The following link contains the details for the training on Google maps:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=112154279187055752202.000464c0dce63c239608c&ll=53.422877,-2.223766&spn=0.003446,0.011373&t=h&z=17

Training will start at midday and run until 5 at the latest. Please arrange appropriate transport to accomodate these times. Manchester Piccadilly station serves most major lines in the UK, and Fog Lane park is easily accessible by road. If you want to throw before the session, then make sure you arrive early as training will start at midday sharp.

To clarify, these are not the trials for the U17s. The details for this will be announced in due time I'm sure.

Any questions, please get in touch

Hi All

Thanks for a great weekend. As I said at the end, the quality of play was the
highest I've ever seen at Junior level with all the play off games being very
close, there were more teams than ever before, and the Spirit in which games was
played was great. Congratulations to AirBadgers 1 who played a very assured game
in the final - and to think that all bar one of that team are eligible play for
at least another 2 years - they're going to take some stopping! Again my thanks
to Kev and Jaz for all they did to help out. A quick summary of results:

Champions - AirBadgers 1
Runners Up - Arctic 1
3 NC Hammer
4 Ocelots 1
5 Flux 1
6 Arctic 2
7 Rhinos 1
8 Candy

9 Jesus Loves Spartans
10 Arctic 3
11 Strangers
12 Catch Those
13 Calday 13
14 6FFU
15 Evolution 1
16 Ocelots 2

17 Calday 11
18 Flux 2
19 Calday 12
20 Evolution 2
21 AirBadgers 2
22 AirBadgers 3
23 Arctic 4
24 Ocelots 3

25 Rhinos 2
26 Arctic 5
27 Arctic 6
28 OAPSs

MVPs of the Final - Borat and Ed from AirBadgers (thanks to Lookfly for
Sponsoring that prize)

Spirit of the Game - Strangers (again, thanks Lookfly)

SOTG was scored with the simple method of each team nominating 1, 2 and 3 points
to the three most spirited teams they played, so a small tally does not
necessarily mean a team is poorly spirited. The full SOTG scores are:

13 points - Strangers (Winners), Arctic 4 (even on first round of votes, casting
vote given to OAPs)
12 points - Candy
10 points - Flux 2
9 points - Evolution 1
8 points - Catch Those, Evolution 2, Arctic 5
7 points - AirBadgers 1, NC Hammer, Rhinos 2, Calday 12, Ocelots 3
6 points - Flux 1, 6FFU, Arctic 6
5 points - Rhinos 1, AirBadgers 2
4 points - AirBadgers 3
3 points - Arctic 2
2 points - Ocelots 1, Calday 11, Arctic 3
1 point - Arctic 1, Calday 13, Ocelots 2, Jesus Loves Spartans
0 points - nobody, thankfully!

So good work to both Brighton teams clocking up lots of votes.

Apologies for the lack of score boards, and lack of trophies - I have all the
necessary addresses to which I shall post the trophies when they arrive. Can
somebody from Calday and Rhinos let me know whether you will be represented at
Under 17 indoors in a couple of weeks time, because if you are I could just hand
over the trophies to you then rather than post them. Let me know.

Lost property - I am at home at the moment and appear to have left this on the
minibus at school, but there really wasn't very much. I'll email what it is when
I get hold of it, and will post (or bring to U17s) anything that is claimed.

I think that is it. See some of you at Under 17 Indoors in a couple of weeks

Folks
I assume that any of you who are interested have all found www.wugc2008.com to
keep up with what's going on in Vancouver
You can check the schedule (by date, or by division) which has all the results,
tables, format, as well as how many assists and goals each individual player has
(not that that is the full story, but its something)
When games are being played you get point by point updates, so earlier I
followed the Junior Open defeat 15-13 to Australia, and as I type the Open team
are 13-12 up on Japan...
Keep throwing discs!!

Hi All
I tried to get this out earlier but my email wasn't working
With Year 11 and 13 left, and Year 10 on work experience, and Gloucester out at
Drayton Manor, we could have a really small practice tonight
BUT THIS WOULD BE BAD
The Guardian (national newspaper) are doing an article on extra-curricular
activites, and are going to be here tonight to have a look at Arctic apparently.
I'm not sure exactly but I guess taking photos and maybe asking people what they
think of it
So even if you're not in school today, if you can make the effort to get in and
play at 3:30 that would be great, and you might even find yourself in the
National Press!!
I know there are loads of people not on this eGroup, so spread the word as much
as you can!!
See you later

Hi All
UKUA Junior Outdoor Nationals 2008 took place in North Birmingham at the
weekend, and was a success despite the rain and then wind that battered us over
the 2 days. (If it's any consolation to those that were here, it has been fine
and fairly still since you left - I think you bring the weather with you!) It
was the biggest Junior Outdoor tournament in the UK yet, with 27 teams
attending. The Junior game is expanding (in terms of number of teams and
players), and improving (in terms of standard of play) month by month at the
moment. This is shown not just in the total number of teams at the weekend,
but fact that only one of the teams in the top 3 this year finished in the top 8
last year - indeed Kent didn't even have a Junior team to enter 12 months ago!
So 'Good Work!' to all the coaches and players who are working so hard with
their teams to achieve this!
Huge thanks to all those that helped over the weekend - setting up, clearing up,
getting water, Kev and Tom for the schedule, Gaynor Tracy and Claire for the
catering, Sutton Rugby Club for the venue... and all of you who played for
sorting out the litter before you left - when I went out onto the back field
after the presentation it was spotless, and I've rarely seen that at a
tournament. Thank you!
There is a fair bit of lost property which I will try and find the time to sort
and catalogue tonight, and email out later on. On this subject, is the issue of
discs - some people seem to think that a disc lying around at a tournament is
fair game to pick up and take home. I know that 3 discs (one of which was meant
for the MVP of the final) were taken from where my stuff was in the foyer, and a
couple of other people have enquired about missing discs - and there are none in
last property. Taking away a disc that isn't yours is stealing. Don't do it.
Here are the results. Teams were asked to give 3 Spirit votes, giving 3 points
to one team, 2 to another, and 1 point to their third choice. In brackets after
each team name is the number of Spirit votes they got. Every team got some
votes, and a low number doesn't necessarily mean you are a poorly spirited team
- every game might have been fantastic and you might have been everyone's fourth
choice with little to choose between all the teams. But I think it is worth
recognising and celebrating those teams that did rack up a number of points.

A number of factors were considered in putting this together. And a number of
people had some input.
The dynamic nature of the Junior game, with new teams forming all the time and
key players on previously strong teams getting too old and moving on, means that
accurate seeding is always going to be a difficult task. This is the best fit
for this year.

If you think you are underseeded - don't complain - just go and beat teams
seeded above you and prove your point that way.

*There is a coaches team, added in here following the late withdrawal of a team.
The coaches team, made up of overaged players, will forfeit all its games. If
you are overage and coming along, and fancy playing, bring your boots, as this
will be the team for you.

They might not be planning to play, but if you see them can you check, and if
they are planning to play to see me about it NOW!!!
I also have the white Arctic bands for sale at £2 each. Spread the word. Come
see me.
And if you want a shirt, or know anyone who does, again come see me NOW! The
latest order has gone to Lookfly, but there is a chance I could squeeze a couple
more on.
Cheers

So far I have had consent forms from the people in the list below. Given that
some of you want to play in a designated 'Year 13' or 'Year 11' team, plus we
want at least three other teams to accomodate our first team, our beginners in
Years 7 and 8, and a team somewhere in between, you can see that there aren't
enough names here.
There are lots of obvious names missing - you guys get yourselves sorted out and
bring me consent TOMORROW!!!! Lots of people aren't on email and/or won't read
this, so chase folk up, remind them etc.
And there maybe others. I've given out a lot more letters than this, and there
are more letters available from me here.
If you've not returned your reply slip by Wednesday, you aren't playing..
The following are playing:
Year 13
Sam Whelan
Tom Sadler
Liam Woods
Dave Wilson
Nathan Trowman
Sammy Hough
Seth Taylor
Jordan Rochester
Andrew Hole
Ed Owens
Year 12
Alex Brookes
Dec Iles
Year 11

Hello All

Ladies - Gemma will be at practice at school on Friday, so come along to make it worth her coming for a good girls session, and any of you who might be interested in being considered for GB U20 Women second team, or GB U17 Girls - be there and have a word with her! Even if you don't want to think GB this year, come along anyway. And invite anyone who's not played regularly (or at all!) before to come too.

Lads - Alex, Callum, Ben - anyone who might be interested in the U20 team, this email (below) tells you what to do... get in touch with him! Sadler, Bailey and Dec don't have email addresses that I know - pass it on to them, and anyone else...

Hey-Hey Junior Ultimate watchers!

So the UKUA board and Kev Lowe has invited me to coach the GB Junior Under 19 second team, and to prepare and arrange the winning of the European tournament in Slovakia in July (dates to be confirmed, likely to be around the Thursday 3 July to Monday 7th, dependent on how much the other European teams faff).

From coaching Kent Juniors I am aware that we have a lot of talented youngsters coming up through the ranks right across the country (how good was Junior indoors this year?!) - the GB Junior lads are looking really threatening on the B Tour (and that isn't just because they're all taller than me), and I know the Junior women are all over their preparations.  There were so many hopefuls that were unable to make the Junior trials, trainings or Worlds and are definitely good enough to represent their country.  I'm gonna arrange at least one training-cum-tournament for us all to hook up, hang out and select a team, but could anyone who's interested (and all those helpful people at schools and clubs who also support the juniors) please get in touch with me, either by;

email: fatmaude@..., or president@...
facebook: I'm "Matthew Ford"
phone: 077 360 360 94
team: Kent.  Come and say Hello.  We've got some Kent University prospectus'.  I hear the local Ultimate scene is awesome ;)  Just to be clear, there will be no favouritism for the players I know the best.

Once the picture is clear I'll post again future dates for the diary.  There will certainly be some GB Junior action at the Junior Outdoor nationals in Birmingham  June 21st which we will meet up at.

As part of my Capello-esque plans for European domination (I'm aware of the irony), I have asked some respected players to help us in our goal:

Paul "Woody" Wood: a veteran.  He's played for a LOT of teams.  All round player and tactician.
James "Troy" Maclure: You may recognise him from such Ultimate Teams as Bears Captain, Huck N Sea, Fire of London...

Please do get in touch, about anything Junior or Ultimate related, and best of luck to everyone at Tour 3.  I'm sure everyone is enjoying the ding-dong battles going on, from the top right down to the bottom this season, as much as I am.

Keep it Spirited,

Subject: [juniorultimate] National Indoor U17s Championships

This weekend saw 14 teams compete in the 3rd ever U17s national indoor
championships held once again in Malpas, Cheshire. Pre-tournament favourites
Airbadgers had a tough choice as half of them played in open regionals and
qualified for nationals in Sheffield; but they chose U17s while their team
mates were busy in Sheffield showing just how far junior ultimate has
progressed. Airbadgers and Artic both showed up with 4 teams with both
managing to field a team of year 7s to compete for the U13s title which went
once again to Exeter.

The semis were well fought contests with Artic 1 convincingly beating
Airbadgers 2 and Crazy Apes (Leicester) giving Airbadgers 1 a run for their
money, but lost 10-4.

The final started well for Artic, taking a 1-0 lead, then a 2-1 lead before
Airbadgers stepped up a gear to score something like 14 points without
reply. The final score was 16-3.

1 Airbadgers 1 (Exeter)
2 Artic 1 (Sutton Coldfield)
3 Crazy Apes (Leicester)
4 Airbadgers 2 (Exeter)
5 Manor 1 (York)
6 Artic 2 (Sutton Coldfield)
7 Airbadgers 3 (Exeter)
8 Ocelots 1 (Malpas, Cheshire)
9 Manor 2 (York) - Plate
10 Artic 3 (Sutton Coldfield)
11 Ocelots 2 (Malpas, Cheshire)
12 Airbadgers 4 (Exeter)
13 Artic 4 (Sutton Coldfield)
14 OAPs (Coaches)

Spirit went to Manor 1, narrowly edging out Ocelots 1 and Airbadgers 1
MVP of tournament went to Joe Wynder (Crazy Apes), narrowly beating Josh
Kyme and Ed Hammand (Airbadgers)
U13s Champions - Airbadgers
Junior Girls champions - Cheshire

Thanks to everyone who came, especially the coaches and teachers who seem to
be giving up more and more weekends.

Kevin.

The dates and venue of this tournament have just been announced - first weekend
in March at Plymouth (a mission away from everyone - unless you're an Air
Badger!)

As ever, I would like to take everyone who wants to go, but at this stage cannot
promise to do this: I don't know what minibuses are available that weekend; I
don't know if I can get enough other staff to give up their whole weekend for
the trek to Plymouth. If you have a parent who might be willing to accompany us
if I can't get enough staff, ask them to get in touch with me - volunteers
always welcome.

I will be looking to enter the strongest Arctic team I can to challenge for the
title, and after that priority will probably go to 6th form as they are too old
to play in Under 17 Indoors (which is open to anyone up to and including Year
11). There is a good chance that Under 17 indoors will take place the following
weekend at Kev's school in Malpas.

Let me know (i.e come see me at school - don't email me back here) if you can
and would like to go.

And I'll get on the case with the rest.

Cheers

Folks

I am missing 2 of the school Arctic shirts - No. 52 (small) and No.99 (large).

If any of you have either of these, or know who does, or can find out who does, please get them returned to me ASAP. I need all the spare shirts I can muster for the weekend of 2/3 Feb as there are loads of players going who do not have their own shirts (yet).

On that note, if any of you are NOT playing that weekend but would not mind lending your shirt for somebody else to use, then let me know and get it to me. I promise it will be washed and returned to you smelling of roses after the weekend.

And if any of you want to order a shirt you need to let me know NOW. I'm about to order. They'll be about £25 again.

Cheers

Hi Folks

Hope you're all having a good weekend. I hear from James/Gemma that GB Junior
Women's training went well today, and hope that any involved in Winter League or
similar tomorrow have a good one!

One of the local papers wants to run another article on Arctic, and are coming
into school on MONDAY to get some photos! Obviously we now have a few photos
from here and there (like the ones in AT Times) that we can give them to use,
but they want to come and take their own.

If you want to be included, and who knows - maybe interviewed for a quote or two
- turn up at the Sports Hall on Monday start of lunch, get changed, and see
what's what... I don't know what they will want to do. I've suggested that they
come for 12:40 though, so there's plenty of time. I don't know whether it'll be
indoors or outdoors - guess it depends a bit on the weather...

Bring your Arctic shirt if you have one, and also your white AT playing shirt I
guess....

Tell people - text them, pop round, spread the word!!!

V
