Dear All,
I think I am an Aspie after reading
up on this. My oldest son aged nearly five has
moderate to severe Autism.
I just feel angry and
bitter how I have been mistreated all these years by
teachers, other pupils etc. I now know school taught me
naught of any real importance for passing off in a
Neurotypical world. But I feel right about one thing: It was
all the others that were odd, (the "Neurotypicals")
not me!
I suppose I have had fewer problems than
some, but perhaps I always felt I couldn't be the real
me in front of others.
The school did not do any
good in helping me with bullies. One came to my house
once and I hit him with a spade, but it was like there
were an army of such scum out there. My mother was the
only one who helped on bullying issues and I even had
a verbal admission the school was a failure here.
Things did not improve much, although one or two
teachers became a little more sympathetic. A few kind
hearted pupils helped, sending one (budding
sociopath?!..) off with a bloody nose bawling for his worthless
hollow self.
I am still reading the earlier
messages. I'll have to write to Lorna & Judith to see what
they suggest. I've heard of a Dr. Simon Baron-Cohen,
but he's in Cambridge.
I think one of the
members, Joyce said her psychologist could not understand
why she did not have any interest in popstars or
boyfriends. I can identify with that: In my mid-teens, I was
more into building radio transmitters, making powerful
fireworks, loco-spotting, and riding around the Derbyshire
hills on my (non-petrol powered!) moped. I just didn't
understand what all the fuss was about regarding bands &
girls. From what you said, Joyce, I'm glad I had no
psychologist pushing funny "wongo pills" on me!!
I could go
on for ever, but that's what I think.
