I took that test, and got 41. But, as I was taking it I became very
suspicious, and, when I checked the scoring system, again, I was
dubious. You get the same 'point' for "strongly agree" and "slightly
agree". Now, as I was taking it, I was thinking "Well, yes, I do a
bit of that, or feel a bit that way, but not a lot" so I
put "slightly agree" or whatever. But I can see that there is a huge
difference between slightly and strongly. One is a bit of a leaning,
and the other is potentially a problem.

What concerns me is that I have had no real problems in life like you
have described. My only 'problem' is a cyclical series of bust ups
with organisations, be it bosses I've worked for, contractors who've
done work for me (builders, garages etc), agencies I worked through,
solicitors, courts etc. Now, that has not been totally debilitating -
and I've generally managed to blame the other side for not
understanding my viewpoint, or taken the blame myself, for not making
myself clear.

I'm reluctant to get diagnosed, in some respects, because I've had so
little in the way of serious debilitation. If I got diagnosed, I'd
feel I was stealing from people who have bigger problems. A bit like
a person with a slight limp saying he has the same problem as a
paraplegic. Sorry to anyone who has 'suffered' more with AS BTW, I'm
really not trying be be offensive or make you feel that I'm saying
you have huge insurmountable problems getting through life. I'm just
trying to express that if other people need help just getting from
their home to the railway station (for example) then who am I to
claim I have the same disorder, and possibly divert attention from
them?

Anyway, I've asked a friend to take the test. This guy is a bit of a
soul mate, he thinks like I do, gets depressed like I do, but is much
better adjusted with people. I've asked him to tell me what he gets.
If he gets a similar mark to me, I'll take it with a pinch of salt.
If he gets a much lower mark, I'll take it more seriously. Of ocurse
there is the possibility that we are both AS, oh heck, this all gets
too hard.

I havent had debilitating problems either-----also, I am married, have 3
children and a job. However, Lorna Wing did not doubt that I have AS, and a
diagnosis answered a lot of questions for me.
