I've just done this test and got 40 (more than 32 = strong
possibility of AS), although I wasn't too impressed with the scoring
system either.
What's the point of distinguishing between "slightly agree"
and "strongly agree" if it isn't taken into account in the final
score?

I've done it 3 times now. First time 41, then 29 then 25. I've never looked at the scoring system, so I'm not deliberately choosing answers to 'get me off'....
