Hello there folks

I was wondering if anyone else on this list has been diagnosed with
Auditory Processing Disorder (APD).

APD goes by many names, particularly in the UK where it seems to be
little understood by most people, not least the medical professionals.
The British Society of Audiology is currently trying to help formulate
a national policy on APD.

It can be known by Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD),
King-Kopetzky Syndrome, and Obscure Auditory Dysfunction.

I ask because I have now had a tentative diagnosis of APD, though I am
still waiting for a full assessment. I think APD can produce/
exacerbate some of the social difficulties experienced by those with AS.

APD for me means in social situations, and situations with background
noise, or where there is much general sensory stimulus my brain is
always a few steps behind everybody else, busy processing the input
and often neglecting the auditory input. This means I can feel very
slow as I mishear things, don't remember stuff said to me (even two or
three minutes later), don't catch jokes or hidden meanings in spoken
word (though I am very capable of understanding sarcasm and jokes in
the written word).

So yes. What's everybody elses take on this matter?
