Re: diagnosis, support, etc.

Hello Helen!

Thank you for your helpful reply. Unfortunately the only official
diagnosis I have had so far is "clinical depression".

I have contacted Prospects but they say they cannot help me until I
get an official diagnosis and referral letters from my psychiatrists.

Whenever I speak to my psychiatrists about this, they tell me they
are treating me for "depression" and they have no interest in the
underlying cause.

I spoke to my GP but he keeps referring me back to my psychiatrists
for this sort of thing. Basically I am really "stuck"

The only diagnosis I have had is from a psychiatrist I paid 100
pounds sterling to see and he would not write it down or communicate
with my current psychiatrist.

Recently I have tried to get my GP to refer me to Cambridge Autism
research Centre for a "CLASS" (Cambridge Lifespan Asperger Syndrome
Service) diagnosis, but again, he refused to do so stating it was a
job for my psychiatrists.

For anyone who is interested the website for the Cambridge Autism
Research Centre is as follows:

http://autismresearchcentre.com

It provides diagnostic assessments free of charge to patient and GP
for adults aged 18 or over who may have Asperger Syndrome or High
Functioning Autism.

I hope everyone else has better luck and help than me!

Many thanks anyway

Jannie

Hi there,

If you live in London, there is an organization called Prospects that
will help you with getting a job----if you go to the National
Autistic Society's website, there is information about it.

Hi Jannie, This sounds outrageous, and you must not give up. Psychiatrists are renowned for only looking at how to treat symptoms and how many pills they can...

Hello Jonners Many thanks for taking the time to reply to me. I considered your reply and decided it might be worth phoning the psychiatrist's secretary. And,...
