Hi David,
Thanks for your details below. You are correct, I think, that the people
at my church did not understand autism. My priest is generally very
good, and serves God as best he can. I did tell him, and several other
people there, some time ago, that I suffer from AS. And I tried to
explain that there are certain situations which I find it difficult to
deal with, and often end up saying the wrong thing, and offending people
when I don't mean to. It was quite hard to stand up in front of a group
of people and tell them this. But I did it to try and get help from them
in dealing with such situations. However, they did not believe that my
difficulty was genuine. They seemed to think that I was making a fuss
about nothing, or that I was not trying, so that it was all my fault. I
asked the priest for help more than once, but got none. And so people
repeatedly upset me at the church, so that I got too frightened to go
back there.
I can understand that. I feel that there should be a AS Autism Minstery. God
has called me to form a Autistic Minstery for now on the Internet and I hope to
do a personal minstery. At my church there are no people with AS and I am
working with them to understand how to deal with AS people and I am making
progress. We AS people need God only he truly understands AS. I am training to
be a pastor and hoping to have God use my knowledge of AS to help others both
normal and AS.
Now the priest has changed his mind, and is going to take the action I
asked him to do weeks ago to help me...
I pray God will give him the ablity to understand
I expect that others with AS have had the problem that people simply
don't understand it. For me, the worst part was that I was telling the
truth, and being treated as a liar, even though the truth I was telling
was so difficult for me.
I am hoping you and me and others with AS can have people understand AS and
rely on God's help to exist as equal brothers and sisters of christ.
God bless you, David,
Angela
