RE: [astronomy-education] A chance to save the planet (and a few bob)

Hi All

Unfortunately I'm on a flight to Belfast City, arriving at 0810. Same offer as Simon though if it suits anyone!

See you next month - don't forget to register and offer a seminar for the AAE session.

Subject: [astronomy-education] A chance to save the planet (and a few bob)

Dear esteemed fellow AAE members

A request to all those who are also planning to attend the joint BAP / AAE annual meeting at Armagh Planetarium next month!

I will be flying into Belfast International Airport (NOT the Belfast City / George Best version) on the morning of Friday 19th May (arrival time 0940).  I wondered if anyone fancied saving carbon emissions and some pennies by sharing a taxi down to Armagh?  Although it only takes about 50 minutes to Armagh from the airport by road, according to the www.translink.co.uk Northern Ireland travel planning website, it takes around 2.5 hours to get there by bus.  Theoretically, I should be able to get to Armagh by bus in time for the start of the afternoon sessions, but it's a bit tight!  So, the more assured options are either (a) get a taxi or (b) rent a car.  The latter seems a bit pointless as it wouldn't be cheap and there wouldn't be any driving to be done whilst attending the conference, hence my asking if anyone fancies sharing a taxi.

Unfortunately, due to flight timings, I can't join any of the Sunday outings (Newgrange/observatory) as my return flight leaves at 1355.  Has anyone got a flight back which leaves around that time, who would be interested in sharing a taxi?

Alternatively, if you are already planning to hire a car, would my flight times tie in such that I could cadge a lift one/both ways and contribute to your costs??

With fingers firmly crossed,

Simon Ould
