Re: [Atheism UK] Hello all,I have a help-question!
Hmm.
By accepting that reality just is. After all, why would it be any
different for us than for anything that is alive? Bacteria die daily,
never heard anyone suggest that they somehow live on. Life is discreet
- it has a start and an end. Many people feel that it would be somehow
lessened if it didn't end (I'm not one of them, by the way).
I do understand where you are coming from, however, the trick is to
realize that there is nothing to fear, after all, you were always going
to die and you accepted the notion with (presumably) no problems until
now. Were you religious? If so, in what way did you think differently
about the fact that you would die? After all, even in religions such as
Xtianity, were it is taught that whilst all believers die, they will
eventually 'live again' after a certain event has taken place, people
still die and the 'after life' is not described as being the same as
actually being alive. In fact it tends to be a rather nebulous notion
at best, but that is an aside - you still were going to die first.
I don't actually understand why you find it so nightmarish, I suppose is
what I am really saying. On a slightly different note, I make the most
of my life, in part, precisely because it is the only one I have.
Hehe! Yeah, we have a quirky sense of humour in the UK, whereas the yanks have either none or else find slapstick and crude jokes amazingly funny (I think they...

Hmmmmm. Do you have some knowledge which the rest of us don't? How do you know what the truth of the matter is if you don't understand your own self? John PM...
I understand myself just fine, why are you trolling in the group again? We already dealt with your supernaturalism last time. And yeah, I probably have tons of...
Woody Allen said "I don't mind the thought of dying I just don't want to be there when it happens." Once you are dead you won't notice the problem is fearing...
Hi I wonder what you are resisting? Is it that you need to believe there is something there, after death, to help you through your life – that you may meet...
Don't wish your life away !!! Very good point Elizabeth. If you are not happy that this is it, and there is nothing thereafter, perhaps you are a secularist...
Very compassionate, Vicky, but surely the real issue isn't what we would LIKE to be waiting for us after death, but what IS waiting for us: oblivion. As I said...
I repeat - how do you know any of what you say? You are going on your own reasoning, which is fine, but it is only reasoning, and probably will change over...
By saying "secularist", what I think you may be referring to is that impossible "Sitting On The Fence" trick they like to call agnostic. This person calling...
No,I am not a secularist, nor an agnostic.Certainly not.I just wanted to know how could I overcome this fear that one day i`ll stop existing. This was all!And I...
Ask yourself why you have this fear of not existing. Do animals have this fear? I would say not, at least I hope not, as I would not want them to sink to our...
I don`t have to ask myself,I know the answer:I have the fear of not existing because I am alive.Every living being fears death and is trying to avoid...
You don't have to ask yourself because you have the answer? We can "know" only 2 things - one, that we are alive, and 2, SOMETHING exists, but we cannot be...
There's that wonky word again, "spirituality". You know it means "breathing", right? As for animals, whether they are aware or not of their immortality is...
Hey ho, Tony. At least you can admit there is something which is not subject to death, if only tentatively. Tony Kehoe <elite@...> wrote:There's that wonky...

You will probably see these questions as old hat, but what will the universe expand into? What will then happen when the universe comes to an "end"? Will the...
What do you mean by "expand into"? The universe will continue to wind down until there is no more energy left, and it reaches zero equilibrium. This scenario...
I would have thought that was fairly simple to understand, but alow me to "expand" on it. The matter brought into existence by the big bang would have to go...
OK, Paul, this is getting boring and old, as we answered all this previously at least once, however I shall now answer a few points you have raised, yet again....
If this is boring and old, that says more about you than the subject. I really do not have any axe to grind as regards trying to convince you or anyone else...
WTF is "spirituality"? It sounds like a meaningless concept. You may not like the way the universe is, Paul, but wishing it were different will not make it so....
Paul If you havn't stopped looking in. You asked a reasonable question about why there was only yourself John and Tony involved in the discussion. One reason...
